Job Description Summary
The Director of Content Strategy works with the Executive Director to lead the development and execution of a school-wide integrated content strategy to advance Penn Nursing’s strategic priorities. Serves as a leader across teams within the School and University, including senior faculty and administration in OAA/Enrollment Management, Events, ONR, student groups, University and School DAR, and others, to identify and prioritize key initiatives. Translates these priorities into actionable strategies and oversees their implementation across multiple platforms, channels, and publications, including social media, the Magliacano Digital Communications Center, website, and Penn Nursing magazine, for which this position serves as Editor.
This role performs a wide range of administrative duties and is responsible for the day-to-day workflow of team initiatives, ensuring all work is produced on time, on budget and on strategy. Must demonstrate exemplary management skills by directly supervising and mentoring two team members, cultivating a high-performing creative team. Ensures alignment with institutional goals while maintaining a forward-thinking approach to content innovation and audience engagement.

Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, the Director of Content Strategy is responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing a multi-platform content strategy that supports Penn Nursing’s goals and objectives. This role collaborates closely with admissions, development, alum relations (DAR), and other internal stakeholders to advance brand elevation, recruiting, enrollment, and fundraising priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
+ Developing and implementing an integrated content strategy that aligns with institutional goals, brand identity, and audience engagement.
+ Leading storytelling initiatives that position Penn Nursing as a thought leader in healthcare through data-informed narratives and stakeholder interviews.
+ Overseeing editorial content across platforms, including print, digital, web, and social media, ensuring brand consistency and alignment.
+ Serving as Editor of Penn Nursing Magazine, managing editorial direction, art design, and production logistics.
+ Supervising content creation teams, including graphic designers and digital communications staff, to ensure cohesive messaging.
+ Utilizing analytics tools to measure content performance, inform strategy, and optimize audience engagement.
+ Conducting focus groups and stakeholder meetings to refine messaging and maintain relevance.
+ Partnering with DAR colleagues to create compelling donor-related content and campaigns.
+ Hiring, mentoring, and managing a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
+ Advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through content, team development, and audience outreach.
Qualifications
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field is required.
+ Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
Experience:
+ Five to seven years minimum experience in content strategy, editorial management, and marketing communications, preferably in higher education or healthcare.
+ Demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional teams and external vendors.
Skills:
+ Expertise in storytelling, branding, and content creation across multiple platforms (print, digital, web, social media).
+ Strong editorial and writing skills, with experience producing high-quality content for diverse audiences.
+ Proficiency in analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and data visualization platforms.
+ Experience with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Drupal, or LiveWhale.
+ Familiarity with project management tools (MS Planner, Asana, Trello) and collaborative platforms.
+ Understanding of DEI principles and their application in content strategy and team leadership.
+ Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Desired Skills:
+ Basic understanding of graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite).
+ Experience with magazine production and innovative digital content formats.
+ Knowledge of donor communications and alumni engagement strategies.
+ A proactive, results-driven approach with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
+ The successful candidate will be a strategic innovative thinker who understands trends in the higher education market and has both a results and service orientation.
+ Must possess the leadership ability to initiate and implement projects with deadlines; able to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring three days in the office and occasional evening and weekend event coverage as needed.
Targeted Pay Range $87,000 - $95,000
