Director of Clinical Alignment

Position TitleDirector of Clinical AlignmentBell HospitalPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Director of Clinical Alignment in the Department of Clinical Affairs is responsible for supporting the Clinical Service Chiefs while helping to integrate and align clinical departments with the health systems Mission and Values, strategic initiatives, and clinical integration. The Director of Clinical Alignment will have a direct reporting relationship to the Executive Director of Clinical Affairs. This position will be responsible for helping with provider strategy and deployment, performance planning and improvement, strategic relationships, compensation, value-based payments, tracking of Department metrics, and overall physician and health system alignment. Partners with Health system leadership and clinical service chiefs in promoting the system mission, vision and values.
• Works with Health system leadership to bridge goals with clinical service chiefs.
• Works with clinical departments in areas of departmental strategy and goals, strategic planning, performance improvement and professionalism.
• Works with assigned departments ensuring alignment with broader organization priorities across both Kansas City and the state of Kansas. Works with Clinical Service Chief to provide leadership and direction in establishing and operationalizing assigned clinical department’s specific strategic plan across the organization.
• Helps coordinate provider deployment to each location and, if necessary, helps identify infrastructure and/or other resources needed to be successful and then helps with implementation of the plan.
• Supports strategic planning generally to help represent and appropriately connect physician component and supports coordination of associated upstream and downstream resource needs.
• Works effectively as a team member in a dynamic environment in a matrix organization and promotes teamwork within and across the organization by maintaining positive relationships and utilizing effective problem solving skills.
• Partners with the data analytics team to develop, distribute and follow appropriate information to enhance the health system and clinical departments initiatives.
• Helps with the implementation of value based compensation plans within each clinical department.
• Supports development of relationships with area partners and affiliate hospitals to continue to develop stronger ties between physicians.
• Stays connected to referral network, supports physician liaisons In collaboration with respective leader of clinical area, ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and standards governing health care delivery by continuous monitoring of clinical practices/operations and works to help with improvement activities where required to proactively identify and address areas of potential non-compliance.
• Works in close partnership with clinical service chiefs and operational leaders to advance the medical groups progressive culture and drive key performance indicators (KPI) of the department. These include a balance scorecard of outcomes such as financial, quality, patient experience, engagement, and transformation.
• Helps monitor and obtain appropriate information to support the Clinical Service Chief in their pursuit to develop strategic goals for their Department’s accountability for evaluation of quality care delivery systems, staffing effectiveness, and patient care outcomes to help clinical service chiefs stay connected to key leaders in these areas. Is a highly visible organizational leader, building strong relationships and collaborative processes.
• Supports alignment of multiple Departments and specialties with respect to operational matters.
• Demonstrates ability to strategically identify, plan and communicate critical success factors necessary for clinical services across the clinical departments.
• Evaluates trended data and helps lead improvements in systems and processes for the Clinical Departments to develop and establish value based models to help reduce expenses and increase quality.Fiscal Management
• Assures the sound fiscal understanding of leaders to establish and manage to budget and productivity targets. Has sufficient level of understanding of key professional service agreement components and Department Compensation plans.
• Supports System input and oversight of Department Compensation plans to ensure alignment with System objectives including around value-based contracts.
• Ensures respective clinical departments successfully incorporates value-based components within each compensation plan, a foundational strategic imperative for each department.
• Helps facilitate contracts to outreach facilities and affiliate hospitals Supports system operational leadership and Clinical Service Chiefs to identify or support financial cost savings opportunities generally, including by reducing care variation and length of stay, and improving patient access and care progression.
• Works collaboratively with the finance leaders to meet fiscal goals of the organization.
• Places a high degree of prioritization on the ongoing work to improve current processes and workflows aligning resources to high priority work across the department.Provider Recruitment/Deployment
• Helps develop recruitment needs of providers across the state in collaboration with CSCs and local leaders in the deployment of providers.
• Supports identification of Care Connections opportunities and oversight of performance.
• Helps with physician recruitment efforts to give broader picture of organization and how they fit into the overall structure.Information/Data
• Work collaboratively with System Applied Analytics/Business Information Systems (AA/BIS) teams to understand physician performance in relation to key data metrics, and supports CSCs to effectively monitor Dept performance through AA/BIS data reporting and analysis.
• Helps AA/BIS scope and prioritize CSC requests for ad hoc data reporting or analysis.
• Helps AA/BIS identify data silos within Depts where independent data reporting or analysis is performed.Communication
• Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to develop an organization-wide team culture and intra-team cooperation.
• Actively prioritizes communication, expectations and improvement work to support a culture that promotes patient and staff safety.
• As a leader, represents others throughout the organization and consistently models positive, proactive and purposeful communication to support all departments and areas. Sets expectations for professional communication and messaging to teams and individuals across the clinical departments.
• Facilitates collaboration among key stakeholders in the quality and performance improvement initiatives of the Department of Clinical Affairs and relevant areas of operations.
