Summary
SUMMARY:
In collaboration with the Vice President and Chief of Pathology, the Director of Lab & Pathology directs all management functions required for the Sinai Hospital laboratory. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing operational budgets, assuring compliance with multiple regulatory agencies, establishing an engaged work force and developing strategic short-term plans for equipment and test menus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assures adequate staffing to perform quality work within established timeframes. Interviews, hires and orients staff to ensure adequate staffing levels against established productivity monitors. Evaluates competency programs for new and existing staff to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Implements initiatives to increase employee engagement and retention, while identifying and developing future leaders. Completes 100% of introductory and annual performance evaluations on time. Plans, develops and manages financial budgets for assigned areas, while implementing strategies for expense reduction. Develops and manages operational and capital budgets for all assigned areas. Completes detailed variance reports including corrective action in a timely manner. Develops and monitors department quality indicators and performance improvement initiatives within the laboratory. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies including CAP, CLSI, TJC, AABB and FDA. Facilitates successful inspections by all required regulatory agencies to include completion of applications for licensure and accreditation, as well as, documentation required for follow-up of any deficiencies. Compiles and organizes an inspection team to perform self-inspections, along with required peer inspections of outside CAP accredited laboratories. Performs routine system tracers and periodic reviews of current standards and provides recommendations to the Vice President to ensure continuous compliance. Evaluates department quality monitors and data, providing guidance on internal and external quality initiatives. Reports data and solutions to appropriate Executive and Multi-Disciplinary Committees. Maintains ongoing and effective communication with staff, caregivers and Administration. Conducts monthly staff meetings to include both departmental and organizational updates to leadership team. Establishes and disseminates policies and procedures, ensuring that all reviews and approvals are completed on time. Participates in the strategic planning process for laboratory services at Sinai Hospital and aligns requests with LifeBridge Health initiatives. Aligns test menus and services within the laboratory to LifeBridge Health strategies and goals. Identifies short term (1- 3 years) needs in terms of equipment, facilities and staff. Provides oversight for implementation of requests to meet these needs, including detailed data collections for justification. Stays abreast of new technologies and market trends and provides recommendations to the Vice President and Chief for future planning. Develops, oversees and reports operational performance improvement initiatives involving services offered and resources managed. Monitors test utilization by volume, cost, service and/or physician to reduce unnecessary ordering and standardize test menus when appropriate. Participates in routine ancillary rounding in Patient Care areas and solicits feedback on laboratory services. Evaluates department quality monitors and data, providing guidance on internal and external quality initiativesREQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree 7+ years of relevant experience Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) CertificationAdditional Information
