**Job Summary and Qualifications**
The Director-Infection Prevention has the responsibility for assessing, evaluating, coordinating and implementing all aspects of Portsmouth Regional Hospital’s Infection Prevention and Surveillance Program. The IP Director has the authority, in collaboration with the Infection Prevention (IP) Committee, to make decisions relative to the surveillance, prevention, and control of Infections/Blood-borne pathogens. The IP Director is the designated Exposure Control Officer for PRH across the organization.
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serves as effective role model in identifying opportunities to improve patient care R/T infection control.
Utilizes current research in designing/evaluating IOP activities R/T infection control.
Identifies criteria for nosocomial infection and oversees surveillance process.
Collects and analyzes data from multiple sources in evaluating IC activities.
Perform outbreak investigation in collaboration with the IP Committee Chairman and prepare appropriate reports.
Assesses surveillance process to assure accuracy.
Effectively determines the needed systems/processes/behavioral changes necessary to support IOP activities.
Effectively interfaces with external entities in planning and coordination of bioterror preparedness
Effectively uses knowledge of change theory to operationalize change within the organization.
LEADERSHIP:
Consistently serves as model for expert nursing practice and demonstrates positive response to change within the organization.
Adapts role to the ongoing changes required in the environment.
Works cooperatively with members of the multidisciplinary team toward the accomplishment of mutual goals for the organization.
Monitors patient care activities to identify techniques, equipment, supplies, and procedures that constitute risk of originating/transmitting infection.
Acts as a role model for challenging existing routines/processes to enhance patient services.
Serves as a liaison between nursing service, physician staff, other departments, and patients/families.
Serves as an effective resource in addressing problems/emergencies within the organization.
Participates in appropriate professional organizations. 9. Interprets, communicates and supports the policies, goals, and philosophy of the Patient Services Division and the hospital in a positive manner.
MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES:
Supports personal/professional growth in hospital staff through positive feedback, goal-setting, etc.
Provides support to employee health projects (i.e., Flu Clinics, PPD testing, etc.).
Performs crisis intervention/F/U for incidents relating to potential exposure to infectious diseases.
Serves as expert resource in the identification/evaluation of clinical competencies R/T Infection Prevention practices.
Collaborates with Directors and staff in assessing staff’s learning needs.
Chooses appropriate teaching/learning strategies to meet learning needs.
Promotes a climate conducive to learning/collegiality.
Provides educational programming in Infection Prevention topics, Blood-borne pathogens, HIV counseling on an on-going basis.
MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION:
Guides unit/hospital standards for documenting patient care.
Provides written/verbal communication through all levels of the organization in a manner that is clear, professional and concise.
Maintains current library on OSHA, Bloodborne pathogens, safety and health information.
Reports infections/communicable diseases to appropriate public health authority. Performs daily syndromic surveillance
Uses computer programs/systems to efficiently and accurately maintain workload.
**Education & Experience:**
3-7 years of related experience - Required
4 years Bachelor's Degree - Required
Master's Degree (Nursing, Lab Technology or other Health Administration Field) - Preferred
CIC required within 12 months of hire.
