Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Director – Healthcare Risk and Claims Management for the department of Healthcare Risk and Claims Management. The Director – Healthcare Risk and Claims Management will work under the direction of the Chief Healthcare Risk Officer (CHCRO) in the oversight of healthcare risk management activities of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (Rutgers).
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Handles overall management, supervision, and ultimate decision making with respect to professional liability claims and litigation for Rutgers. Coordinates insurance coverage and risk financing for the three participating entities in the New Jersey Self-Insurance Retention Fund, with particular emphasis upon the University’s professional liability program of self-insurance and its commercial excess insurance placement. Maintains ongoing communication with excess insurer claims representatives concerning the catastrophic adverse events, case development, and litigation strategy. Interfaces with legal defense counsel, the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey, the Rutgers Office of General Counsel, and the General Counsels of the other participating entities to administer the clinical risk management program, manage and analyze risk management data, and conduct and arrange for healthcare risk management education programs. Coordinates with counterparts at RWJ Barnabas Healthcare regarding healthcare risk management associated with the Medical Group of RWJ Barnabas Health and Rutgers Health. Participates in the Rutgers Enterprise Risk Management Processes with respect to health care risk management and patient safety. Protects the assets of the organization by controlling and minimizing losses. Assists RBHS clinicians in responding to adverse events and patient complaints, in collaboration with OGC and UEC. Assists RBHS clinicians in responding to licensing boards, in collaboration with OGC and UEC. Works closely with the CHCRO to be a strategic partner with the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration and University Treasurer, the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, the Executive Director of Risk Management; the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, and other senior management in providing key leadership and coordination of healthcare risk management within Rutgers. Promotes a strong teamwork approach to augment the partnership with the management of the joint Medical Group.
