Director - Emergency Department

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Director ensures compliance with nursing care standards established by commissions, federal, state, and local regulatory agency standards and assures adherence to institutional objectives and policies pertaining to nursing and emergency care. Responsible for delivery of quality patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of patients.  Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall care of patients in the Emergency Room.  Ensures patient care, safety standards, and documentation are carried out according to Emergency Department and regulatory standard recommended practices and guidelines. Director is responsible for Emergency Department policies and procedures, and staff education and competency development. Director is accountable for employee and provider time and attendance, scheduling, and employee and provider coaching and evaluation. Director r maintains open communication with all staff, providers, and families; works to promote safety and quality improvement performance.  Emergency Room Director assures appropriate triage and patient flow to the hospital, ancillaries and/or PACU/OR. Receives direction from Chief Nursing Officer, Administration. Gives direction to: Emergency Department Staff, Emergency Department Supervisor and Emergency Department providers in conjunction with Department Chair. Works cooperatively with:  Patients, Families, Physicians, Providers, Departmental Leaders and Ancillary Staff.

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree, required

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 3 years as an Emergency Room RN Management experience, preferred

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

Montana RN Licensure, required BLS, required ACLS, required PALS, required TNCC, required ENPC, required Certified Emergency Nurse, preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

         Must be able to serve the emergency needs of the following age of patient populations:          Neonates (1 – 30 days)          Infants (30 days – 1year)          Children (1– 12   years)          Adolescents (13 – 18 years)          Adults (19 –70 years)          Geriatrics 70 plus.          Needs to be highly skilled interacting with people at all levels of the organization.          Must possess exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, be customer service oriented, and work as an integral part of the team.          Requires flexibility, independent thinking, and problem solving skills.          Must be able to demonstrate ability to initiate and develop special projects. Must be able to handle a busy work load.
