Essential functions (job duties): The full-time Program Director has responsibility and authority for the overall administration and implementation of the Wayne State University Nurse Anesthesia Program in accordance with the requirement and policies of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Wayne State University clinical affiliates. Program Leadership and Management Responsibilities: This job description is not to be considered an exhaustive or exclusive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements. Employees may be required to perform other job-related activities as requested. The Program Administrator performs each of the following functions for the DNAP program: 1. Assume overall authority, management and responsibility for the Program including the authority to prepare and administer the program budget. 2. Supports and facilitates the goals of the University and the program. 3. Demonstrates knowledge of environmental issues such as community and workforce need, change in clinical and financial resources, state and federal regulatory requirements, scope of practice, educational environments, healthcare reimbursement, and technological advancements that may influence the program and practice. 4. Serve as a liaison between Wayne State University and clinical affiliate hospitals. 5. Leads the DNAP program faculty team. 6. Promote a supportive environment for students, faculty and staff and other personnel (protective time, mutual respect, trust, openness and support). 7. Develops internal and external metrics and feedback systems for continuous improvement. 8. Works closely with the Assistant Program Director and faculty to ensure DNAP program outcomes and continuous improvement; including collaboration on course offerings, program changes, and student experiences. 9. Leads student engagement that fosters leadership and student outcomes. 10. Provides leadership in the management of the DNAP Programs through curriculum development, implementation of innovations, systematic evaluation, and program planning. 11. Leads and conducts DNAP faculty meetings, program evaluation, and development. 12. Ensures use of innovative technological teaching methods and tools for continuous improvement of the DNAP program, including advancement of distance education delivery models. 13. Interviews, hires, and evaluates all DNAP program faculty, including identifying programmatic needs for faculty recruitment and retention. 14. Responsible for DNAP program faculty assignments in collaboration with the Chair and Associate Dean of the College. 15. Collaborates with the Assistant Program Director to develop and maintain program policies and assures compliance with all educational and accreditation policies. 16. Collaborates with the Assistant Program Director for the development and evaluation of DNAP program curriculum, including facilitation and approval for course, curricula and program and curricular changes. 17. Collaborates with Assistant Program Director and faculty to develop schema for course offerings and schedules each semester in compliance with university expectations and policies. 18. Oversees the program’s systematic evaluation program and ensures that student evaluations of academic courses/faculty are reviewed each semester. 19. Designs and delivers didactic in accordance with COA and NBCRNA recommendations and consistent with areas of knowledge and skill and departmental needs. 20. Facilitates assessment of student academic achievement and other areas of instructional effectiveness. 21. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed and demonstrates knowledge of environmental issues that influence the program and nurse anesthesia practice by engaging in professional development. 22. Engage in scholarly activity to enhance knowledge in nurse anesthesia. 23. Seeks education opportunities available to faculty as needed such as information offered through Office of Teaching and Learning. University and Community Engagement 1. Develops and maintains strategic relationships to advance the DNAP program outcomes. 2. Collaborates with Wayne State University, EACPHS, and community leaders to advance DNAP education. 3. Provides input to university and college committees as needed. 4. Serves on program, department, college, university, and professional committees. 5. Establishes and maintains multiple clinical affiliations, and assures valid contracts. 6. Ensures that site visits are made to all active clinical affiliates at least annually. Advising/Mentoring 1. Develops and oversees student success initiatives including remediation. 2. Mentors and sponsors program faculty to advance education, scholarship, and professional development outcomes. Student Recruitment and Enrollment 1. Collaborates with the Assistant Program Director to oversee recruitment 2. Establishes standards for student eligibility, and supports admission of high-quality candidates for the program. 3. Conducts interviews with applicants as part of the admissions committee to select qualified applicants to the program. Metrics and Outcomes 1. Ensures Program outcomes meet national standards. 2. Advances DNAP project clinical partnerships and IPE initiatives. 3. Analyzes program assessment data for programmatic and departmental improvement 4. Advances retention and graduation rates. Reporting Responsibility: Reports to Department Chair Evaluation: The Program Director will be evaluated by the Chair of the department. Unique duties: Qualifications: Qualifications: 1. Initial certification and recertification as a CRNA by the NBCRNA. 2. Current licensure and specialty certification in the State of Michigan. 3. Minimum of five years’ experience in didactic nurse anesthesia education. 4. Previous educational administrative experience with completion of a self-study and onsite accreditation visit preferred. 5. Experience in the development, implementation, and management of testing and remediation initiatives for doctoral nurse anesthesia students for academic success. Including analyzing assessment data to identify areas of strength and areas requiring remediation, assessing student behaviors and performance to develop individualized success plans, and creating and implementing effective remediation programs for students not meeting academic performance standards. 6. Experience with program admissions. 7. Formal instruction in curriculum, evaluation, and instruction. 8. Strong verbal, writing, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. 9. Participation in professional association(s) with knowledge of practice and professional issues. 10. The DNAP Program Director will hold a terminal degree (DNP, DNAP, or PhD, or equivalent) from an institution of higher education that is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education at the time the degree was conferred. 11. Knowledge of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs policies and procedures. 12. Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory, and clinical settings; knowledge of the profession including practice issues, procedures, and regulations. 13. Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community. 14. Skill in goal setting and team building; analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities; independent initiative.
