Our R&D Strategy Implementation & Operational Excellence team is comprised of industry and strategic change execution experts who will navigate and guide the R&D organization through our journey and transformation. Position Summary
To deliver timely medicines to patients and to achieve our business goals, we must cultivate a highly resilient operating model that is able to withstand a variety of global threats (e.g., cyber, natural, geo-political, social, supplier). The Director, R&D Business Continuity & Crisis Management (BCCM) is a results-oriented leader who will set and drive our R&D resiliency strategies and crisis responses for our global R&D sites/facilities, processes/technologies, personnel, and key customers/partners (e.g., Clinical Investigator Sites). This role is part of a broader R&D BCCM team
Key Responsibilities
R&D BCCM Resiliency Strategy & Execution:
Set and drive the BCCM the annual strategy setting and prioritization process to align R&D leaders on the priorities, objectives, and initiatives for the BCCM program; serve as thought partner by infusing external / industry best practices while also ensuring our strategy is fit-purpose for the unique needs of BMS Research and Drug Development; must align plans with enterprise partners such as the BMS Enterprise Resiliency program, Global Manufacturing & Supply Chain, Facilities, Quality, IT, and 3rd Party Risk Management. This also includes:
Partner with Research Site Leadership Teams to establish site-based plans for critical operations
Oversee a fit-for-purpose training and culture plan to ensure all parties understand their role in the R&D BCCM program and to cultivate an org/culture that values, prioritizes, and enables R&D resiliency
Scan marketplace (both biotech and non-pharma) to continuously identify best-in-class business continuity and resiliency capabilities
Lead the planning and execution of BCCM program operations and tactics such as completion/refresh of business impact assessments, design/planning/execution of a robust resiliency testing program, and supporting our Third-Party Risk Management controls, etc.
Establish and maintain proactive platform/asset-specific resiliency plans for priorities within our R&D pipeline
When needed, lead strategic initiatives to proactively mitigate emerging risks not addressed by our foundational resiliency program (e.g., new government or health authority policies, specific supply chain outages, etc)
R&D Crisis Response Leader
Actively represent R&D on the BMS Business Resiliency PMO and Crisis Event Response Team (CERT), as required
Lead or facilitate the R&D-related response teams for critical events impacting R&D
Drive proactive continuous improvement of our event response plans to embed efficiency/productivity improvements
Qualifications & Experience
BS/BA Degree in Business Management or related field required; advanced degree in related discipline preferred
Certified Business Continuity Professional (desired) or track record of achievement in business continuity/resiliency (preferably in pharma/biotech R&D); successful track record of achievement in the following areas:
Crisis/event response leadership (Geo/Political, Pandemic, Natural Disaster, Cyber)
Business continuity/resiliency risk & issue management
Converting complex challenges into clear plan of actions and/or driving large cross-functional enterprise initiatives to deliver intended business outcomes; problem solver and facilitator
7-10 years of pharma R&D industry experience preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, understand requirements, and convey information clearly and concisely.
Autonomous and a strong developer of effective partnerships and relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Ability to lead and motivate teams, facilitate discussions, and influence stakeholders to drive initiatives. This includes the ability to inspire and empower others, resolve conflicts, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
High proficiency in and demonstration of critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making.
Anticipates needs and assesses and manages business and organizational risks.
Demonstrated innovation, flexibility, open-mindedness, and adaptability to meet objectives in a rapidly changing environment with shifting priorities.

BMS has a diverse occupancy structure that determines where an employee is required to conduct their work. Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility.
