The Director, Partner Risk Management Program position is part of the Global Network Services (GNS) business within the Global Merchant & Network Services business group. The GNS business drives scale and relevance for the enterprise by bringing on and managing financial institutions that issue and/or acquire on the American Express network. The business manages American Express’s presence in over 110 countries and territories through over 240 financial institution partners and is a driver of innovation for the company through the products and services it regularly introduces to the Network.
The Director, Partner Risk Management plays a critical role in the team responsible for enhancing GNS’ operational risk procedures, ensuring effective monitoring, controls, and support are in place across business processes as well as ensuring appropriate oversight of GNS partners’ risk and compliance activities. Reporting directly to the Vice President GNS Partner Risk Management, this position requires strategic vision, procedure and program development experience, and cross-functional collaboration across our global network. The successful candidate will have experience in financial services with expertise in financial crime controls, OFAC sanction screening, and/or partner risk procedures. They will have a proven track record of operational excellence in a complex and regulated global environment.
Job Responsibilities
Drive the uplift in GNS partner oversight practices through end-to-end management of the partner risk management program alongside global team Leverage industry & regulatory expertise to design and implement frameworks that enable GNS business teams to drive remediation of significant exposures and control gaps Lead with an external perspective to develop and update policies, procedures, and controls, as appropriate Provide thought-leadership and collaborate closely with Control Management and second-line risk management teams on the roll out of new and / or enhanced partner monitoring and reporting, as applicable Analyze data to identify risks, make informed decisions, and enable issue resolution through effective collaboration with critical stakeholders Collaborate with Business Development, Partner Business Servicing, and Product, Marketing, & Global Businesses teams across GNS to ensure all GNS partners have effective procedures in place to conduct ongoing risk assessment, monitoring, and reporting activitiesMinimum Qualifications
6+ years experience in financial crimes risk management with expertise in regulatory and industry standards including AML/CFT controls and sanctions compliance Proven ability to design, enhance, and implement operational risk frameworks that monitor, assess, and mitigate risks related to financial crimes Experience managing external relationships through business development and risk analysis, preferably in a large financial institution or heavily regulated entity Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the payments landscape Exceptional communication and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels Keen ability to identify, evaluate, and concisely communicate process improvements for large-scale programs and initiatives Excellent analytical skills with the ability to use data-driven insights to drive decision making Demonstrated ability to make decisions with minimal guidance, work well under pressure, and adapt readily to changeSalary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
