Job Description

The Director of Logistics is primarily responsible for routing strategy, route planning & standardization, total delivery optimization, and the oversight of the national and regional logistics teams.  This position will partner cross-functionally with Demand Planning, Network Optimization, Corporate Supply Chain, and operational teams to drive reduced distribution costs and improved customer satisfaction.  The Director of Logistics is the leader and change agent for the routing team and is responsible for data analytics and developing data driven decisions.  The Director of Logistics ensures that all routes are built to maximize efficiency and quality while maintaining compliance with all state, federal, and corporate guidelines, polices, and laws.

Actively utilizes lean tools (VSM, Kaizen, A3, etc.) to inform and assess business opportunities to drive continuous improvement. Lead and participate in Kaizen and value stream mapping activities.

- Manage national and regional logistics managers and their teams

- Partner with RVPs and market managers on all delivery planning improvements

- Lead, implement, and monitor True North initiatives

- Develop standardized processes across the routing teams, build out training tools, & SWIs

- Responsible for routing data analytics and data driven decisions.

- Collaborate with corporate supply-chain team on system-wide routing improvements (delivery and retail merchandiser) and share/implement best practices.

- Support field execution of and compliance with routing plans; facilitate feedback from all levels of the organization. 

- Support equipment optimization and staffing models for delivery employee staffing targets at each location and distributors, in accordance with the strategic plans for the region and federal/local hours of service, weight limits, and other transportation regulations.

- Work with locations across the region on continuous improvement in all areas of company operational execution. Assist with driver SOP development and best practices for training.

- Develop and manage scorecards on metrics/KPI’s, including but not limited to under-service, over-service, skipped stops, unscheduled stops, and other metrics.

- Responsible for transportation analysis, delivery data collection, and delivery customer service.

- Assist with developing training on total region delivery management, compliance, metrics, tools, and execution.

- Assist with developing training for the Region’s Plant Managers, DC Managers, and Delivery Supervisors on delivery management, compliance, and execution.

- Drive improvements in routing, field execution of routing, and fleet optimization.  Lead initiatives to reduce cost and improve customer service. Comply with local and federal hours of service, cargo weight, and other regulations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree required10 + years experience with operational management of warehouse or distribution center.Advanced expertise with routing software and the MS Office Suite.Minimum 10 years experience in delivery operations, preferably in the ice business or related food production industry.Intermediate knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act and relevant state/local laws.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

50% - 75% travel; a valid driver's license and acceptable MVR is requiredMust be able to lift up to 40 lbsConditions vary from normal office conditions using typical office equipment to standing and walking through all areas inside and outside of a plant. Exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations, electrical hazards, ammonia and heavy moving equipment. This position works in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through complex business situations is essential. A valid drivers license and acceptable MVR is required since this position requires occasional travel.
