Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.
The Director of Learning and Development (L&D) for Product and Technology (P&T) leads the global strategy for building the capabilities of our P&T workforce. This pivotal role focuses on aligning learning initiatives with the strategic goals of the organization while addressing the nuanced needs of global tech and product teams. The position partners with senior leaders (Senior Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents) across P&T, People Partners, and regional leadership teams in APAC/ India. Beyond P&T, the role contributes to cross-functional L&D strategies that elevate business-wide capabilities in APAC/ India.
In this role, you will:
Global Learning Strategy Development:
Develop and execute a cohesive Learning & Development (L&D) strategy for global Product and Technology (P&T) teams, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Translate business priorities into innovative learning solutions that address skill gaps, foster innovation, and enable organizational growth.
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management:
Build strong partnerships with senior executives (Travel Leadership Team, SVPs, VPs), People Partners (HRBPs), and global leadership teams to identify and address learning priorities.
Act as a trusted advisor to the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Product Officer as their learning strategy expert.
Build trust and partnership with APAC and India regional leadership teams, providing tailored L&D strategies for both P&T and cross-functional business areas.
Program Design and Execution:
Lead the creation of scalable learning initiatives for P&T function, including leadership development, skill academies, and innovative training programs, delivered through in-person, digital, and blended formats.
Oversee end-to-end program management, ensuring timely, impactful delivery across regions.
Accelerate AI/ Gen AI adoption across the company, in partnership with key internal stakeholders.
Driving a Culture of Learning:
Champion a culture of continuous improvement and upskilling, promoting self-directed learning and personal/professional development across global teams.
Introduce best practices and emerging trends in learning technologies and methodologies, fostering innovation in L&D.
Metrics and Impact Measurement:
Define and monitor KPIs to measure the effectiveness of learning solutions, leveraging insights for program enhancements.
Utilize data to make informed decisions and demonstrate the ROI of L&D investments to stakeholders.
Leadership and Team Management:
As a senior leader within the Talent & Learning team, provide mentorship and foster professional growth.
Collaborate with regional and functional L&D teams to ensure a cohesive and integrated learning approach.
Regional and Cross-Business Alignment:
Partner with APAC and India leadership to address diverse learning needs across business units beyond P&T, supporting organizational growth in key markets.
Ensure programs are culturally sensitive and relevant, balancing global consistency with regional customization.
Experience and qualifications:
Strategic Talent Experience: Proven progressive experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, or Organizational Development, within global technology or product-focused environments. Must have at least one learning experience (strategic/implementation).
Product and Technology Strategic Advisory Experience: Has technical knowledge and depth of understanding in Product / Technology functions. You will have experience influencing CTO/CPO and SVP leaders. You are curious and passionate about the business context and leadership growth, builds strong relationship by being an inspiring and approachable leader.
Global Expertise & Cultural Agility: Experience working with and influencing leadership across the U.S. and India, is required. Sensitivity to cultural nuances and the ability to design relevant global programs.
Innovation and Technology: Knowledge of advanced learning technologies and tools (e.g., LMS, e-learning platforms, AI/ Gen AI).
Strategic Vision & A Storyteller: Ability to align learning initiatives with the People and Business strategies on a global scale. You are able to build and articulate a vision and translating it into an executable strategy, leading with data and insights. Skilled thought-leader, confident and successful at influencing others to act.
Stakeholder Engagement: Expertise in building trust and credibility with executive stakeholders.
Data-Driven Decision-Making: Proficiency in leveraging data to evaluate learning impact. You leverage data to identify gaps, you think holistically and strategically, considering the interconnectedness of various factors. ability to synthesize ad hoc market intelligence data to provide insight and inform talent strategies i.e. talent market trends, threats, opportunities etc.
A Strong Operator: adept at running day to day operations globally at a fast-paced scale, across globally dispersed teams, leveraging technology and change management to continuously optimize efficiencies and push the boundaries of what is possible. Strong project management and facilitation skills to deliver impactful learning experiences.
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $261,500.00 to $366,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $418,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
The total cash range for this position in Austin is $261,500.00 to $366,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $418,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $197,000.00 to $275,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $315,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
