Job Summary: The Director, Infection Prevention oversees the performance of daily surveillance activities, data analysis, and report generation that contributes to meeting the system-wide infection control plan goals. This role develops and maintains processes that contribute to successful quality and patient outcomes and continued compliance with federal and state regulations.

Minimum Education: Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing, and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing, preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience within an acute care setting.  Experience within a leadership role, preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of microbiology and infectious diseases with fundamental understanding of epidemiology and statistics. Proven knowledge of quality improvement strategies and tools. Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal that present clear and concise information. Ability to organize and prioritize work, make judgments and decisions, be detail oriented and able to meet deadlines. Sound ability to maintain professional and courteous and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in adynamic work environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Generates and implements the system wide infection control plan by overseeing the performance of daily surveillance activities, data analysis, and report generation which contributes to meeting the infection control plan goals. Prepares and presents an annual infection control program summary to the Infection Control Committee.  Provides clinical supervision and ongoing training to infection control staff to facilitate recognition of sentinel events and/or marker organisms, timely initiation of outbreak investigations, implementation and monitoring of corrective actions, and development of reports of such actions, as needed.  Coordinates the system-wide enforcement of federally mandated programs such as the OSHA bloodborne pathogen and tuberculosis standards. Plans and implements methods to assess required program reviews, compliance monitoring, and program modifications, as needed. Participates in Joint Commission surveys by conducting regular program review to assure compliance with current standards. Monitors local, state, and national health agency requirements for communicable disease occurrence. Reports and makes necessary program policy and practice changes to allow compliance with reporting requirements as required by law; and communicates required changes to the Infection Control Committee, administration, medical staff, and other hospital departments. Contributes to the improved knowledge of infection control, infectious disease issues through evidence-based guideline review, and making recommendations for implementation. Oversees the development of education offerings prepared by the Infection Control staff for presentation to healthcare providers, patients, and family. Collaborates with stakeholders in annual department budget development and monitors compliance of established budgetary thresholds.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.  

Working Relationships: Direct Supervision of others. Prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
