Purpose of the Opportunity
The Director, Foundation & Corporate Relations works closely with the VP to execute strategic initiatives designed to grow funding support from corporate and foundation partners. Building upon a strong existing base of funders, the Director cultivates, solicits, and stewards current and new corporate and foundation donors to meet and exceed the Development Department’s annual goals. The Director works collaboratively and leads in the grant writing and reporting responsibilities while researching and pursuing new ways to communicate Win’s mission and successes to secure larger gifts. Important to this position is the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with corporations and foundations for and with Win’s leadership team. The Director has a “can do” attitude, with the ability to perform well in both a team setting and independently. This person has an interest in exploring creative partnerships and leveraging innovative ideas and approaches to attract funders. The Director is also comfortable representing and/or presenting Win’s work to new and existing audiences.
The Director is a highly polished and seasoned professional who thrives on managing details, yet has the dedication to Win’s mission and vision to effectively communicate Win’s value to external stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
Grant Writing
Develop compelling, thought-out proposals, donor solicitations, reports, and contribute to other writing as needed.Develop and update program descriptions that can be easily accessed on short notice by the grants team and Development Department at-large for funder outreach and requests.Work with the Research team to leverage interesting and/or significant data points for proposals, reports, and other communication with funders. Closely work with the program team to obtain stories and other important information to include in grant applications and funder solicitations. Ensure written materials for grants are regularly updated.Work with key staff to develop budgets to accompany grant applications and proposals.
Funder Portfolio and Grants Contracts Management
Manage and oversee a rigorous schedule of contacts with corporate and foundation representatives.Manage the pipeline of donors and move to higher levels of giving through creation of compelling proposals/materials.Have a strong understanding of grant contracts, deliverables, financials, and marketing expectations to ensure donor requirements are met.Work closely with the Development Operations staff and Finance team to ensure grant payments and timelines are communicated and properly tracked. Understand nonprofit financials and have the ability to develop program budgets to support grant applications, proposals, and reports.Directly supervise the Grants Coordinator and complete performance evaluations.Lead by example and motivate/train the Grants Coordinator to produce quality materials within tight timeframes while simultaneously handling several projects.
Funder Solicitation & Cultivation
Support the cultivation and solicitation of corporations and foundations to make major investments in Win by matching strategic initiatives and fundraising priorities with prospective donors' interests.Lead and organize funder site visits, ensuring appropriate staff are prepped and strategies are in place for a successful experience. Work to ensure the CEO and Senior Vice President (and other team members as needed) are provided with the necessary briefs and background information for key prospects and meetings.Regularly communicate with the Volunteer Services team to identify crossover or opportunities with corporations. Represent Win as needed at donor engagement events and activities and have the ability to speak to the organization’s mission and tailor messaging to funder interests.Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Development team.
Essential Functions:
Must be able to utilize computer apps and features to execute tasks and navigate grant portals.Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.Must be familiar with DocuSign and Salesforce. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Adobe, and have an understanding of program budgeting, data collection, analysis, and reporting.Must be familiar with grant database research tools, e.g. FoundationSearch, The Foundation Center, Grants Watch, etc. Must be able to work closely with various departments across the organization to develop compelling proposals.
Qualifications:
Commitment to Win’s mission, vision, and values.BA degree plus seven (7) years of fundraising experience with increased responsibility required. Three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with demonstrated success in a development function including managing and cultivating relationships with corporate and foundation sources required.Knowledge and experience with philanthropic grant making and private sector funding sources a plus.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including public speaking and presentations to all levels of constituents. Strong organizational and time management skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as team player who proactively and productively engages others at varying levels of seniority internally and externally.
