Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The mission of the Division of Student Success is to collaborate with the university community to deliver targeted, impactful services that enhance the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student population. Dedicated to fostering student success, the division provides leadership, guidance, and transitional support designed to equip students with the tools and resources they need from their first day on campus to the moment they receive their diploma, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the entire student lifecycle. This division includes the offices of University Advising, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience, Academic Support Programs, and Educational Opportunity Programs such as TRiO Student Support Services and McNair Scholars.

As part of the Division of Student Success, University Advising (UA) coordinates comprehensive academic advising and retention support for all undergraduate students. Advising plays a pivotal role in student success by providing guidance in course selection and academic planning and supporting students’ personal, educational, and professional goals. Departments and initiatives within University Advising include the Students First Office, Transfer Initiatives, Starfish EARLY Alert, Academic Appeals, and FYE 101.

The FYE 101 team coordinates first-year support via the delivery and instruction of FYE 101: Succeed at the G – a 3-credit hour, general education course designed to help students successfully transition to academic and student life at UNCG. In FYE 101, students will learn to identify and use campus resources, develop goals and plans related to personal purpose and interests, and build connections with peers, faculty, and staff at the University. Position Summary Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Advising and Student Success, the Director of FYE 101 has primary responsibility for developing, implementing, and evaluating the FYE 101: Succeed at the G course and curriculum.

Percentage Of Time 30% Key Responsibility FYE 101 course design and delivery Essential Tasks Oversee FYE 101 curriculum development and lead the collaborative development of FYE 101 course materials, assignments, Canvas shells etc. Work with the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee & General Education Council to ensure course is meeting MAC/Gen Ed standards. Conduct an annual review and development of course syllabi, including student learning outcomes, assessments, and assignments. Work with campus partners on curricula integration and classroom visits as appropriate.


Percentage Of Time 30% Key Responsibility Instructional staff development and supervision Essential Tasks Direct supervision of the FYE 101 departmental team, which includes 4 instructional staff and 1 program coordinator. Hire and train professional staff and faculty who will serve as instructors on an as needed basis. Provide departmental leadership for the Peer Academic Leader (PAL) program and its integration with FYE 101. Coordinate the onboarding and ongoing professional development requirements for all new and continuing FYE 101 instructors.


Percentage Of Time 25% Key Responsibility Oversight of FYE 101 departmental daily operations Essential Tasks Plan, manage, and oversee the annual departmental operating departmental budget. Collaborate with ITS and Institutional Research colleagues on reports and dashboards necessary to the future strategic development of FYE 101. Prepare an annual report submission for FYE 101 as part of the University’s assessment and accreditation process. Represent FYE 101 at relevant Admissions, Advising, and Student Success related events and meetings.


Percentage Of Time 15% Key Responsibility FYE 101 Course Instruction

Essential Tasks Teach a minimum of one section of FYE 101 per academic year. Develop section-specific syllabus, Canvas course site(s), and course materials where appropriate. Plan and lead FYE 101 lessons, discussions, and learning activities. Grade course assignments and assessments. Use the Starfish: EARLY ALERT platform to notify academic advisors and academic support professionals when students are need of additional support. Support assigned PAL in co-facilitating discussions and learning activities during class time.
