Director, External Communications

A Day in the Life: 
The Director of External Communications is a strategic leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the company's external communications strategy. This includes overseeing corporate branding, media relations, digital channels (website and social media), and thought leadership programs. This role requires a dynamic and strategic thinker with a deep understanding of communications, public relations, and corporate branding. The Director will lead a team to deliver on the company's brand promise and objectives, building brand awareness, enhancing brand equity, and ensuring brand consistency across all platforms.

 

What You'll be Doing:
Corporate Branding
      o Develop and implement branding strategies that align with the company's mission, vision, and values.
      o Ensure brand consistency across all platforms, including website, social media, marketing materials, and internal communications.
      o Oversee brand audits and market research to identify areas for improvement and growth.
Media Relations
      o Develop and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets and journalists.
      o Proactively pitch stories and secure media coverage that positively positions the company.
      o Manage media inquiries and crisis communications.
      o Prepare press releases, media kits, talking points, and other media materials.
Digital Channels (Website and Social Media)
      o Oversee the company's website and social media presence, ensuring content is engaging, informative, and consistent with the brand.
      o Develop and implement social media strategies to build brand awareness and engage target audiences.
      o Manage social media accounts, create and curate content, and monitor social media trends.
      o Analyze website and social media analytics to optimize performance and measure ROI.
Social Media Ambassador Program 
      o Oversee the company's social media ambassador program, including recruitment, training, and management of ambassadors.
      o Develop and implement strategies to leverage the ambassador program for brand advocacy and community building.
Executive Thought Leadership Program
      o Develop and implement a comprehensive thought leadership program for key executives.
      o Identify speaking opportunities, conferences, and publications to showcase executive expertise.
      o Collaborate with executives to develop thought-provoking content, including articles, blog posts, and presentations.
Crisis Communications and Issues Management 
      o Develop and implement crisis communication plans and protocols.
      o Serve as the company spokesperson during crisis situations.
      o Manage issues and mitigate reputational damage.
      o Proactively monitor and identify potential crises and issues.
      o Conduct post-crisis evaluations and implement learnings."


Skills/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
8+ years of experience in external communications, with a proven track record of success in corporate branding, media relations, digital marketing, and thought leadership.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and tailor messages to different audiences.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve common goals.
Deep understanding of digital marketing and social media best practices.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience working with executives and senior management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated experience in crisis communications and issues management.
