Director, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)

The Director, environmental Health and Safety will lead Plug’s EHS strategy and execution for its North America Manufacturing Team.  This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations, promoting a culture of safety, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to safeguard the health and well-being of employees, the surrounding community, and the environment. The Director will provide strategic leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs, while also ensuring that company standards are consistently met across all sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Oversight

Develop and implement an overarching EHS strategy for the company’s North American manufacturing operations.Lead a team of EHS managers and specialists at multiple sites to ensure uniform application of EHS policies and best practices.Collaborate with senior leadership to align EHS initiatives with business objectives and support overall company growth.Provide leadership, guidance, and training to site management teams to promote a proactive EHS culture.Manage, mentor and develop your team members to enhance their expertise and capabilities.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory bodies.Manage EHS risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions as needed.Oversee incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans for EHS-related incidents.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations and trends to ensure proactive compliance.

Environmental Stewardship

Work closely with the Director of Sustainability and Environmental to develop and implement programs to minimize environmental impact and maintain regulatory compliance.Work with your team and business partners to drive sustainability initiatives and support corporate goals.

Health & Safety Programs

Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of health and safety programs, including workplace safety assessments, hazard communication, ergonomics, and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.Ensure that emergency response and disaster recovery plans are in place and regularly tested.Promote a safety-first culture through training, regular safety audits, and engagement programs for all levels of employees.

Performance Metrics & Reporting

Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of EHS programs and initiatives.Prepare and present regular reports on EHS performance, compliance, and risk management to senior leadership and regulatory agencies.Lead the preparation and submission of EHS-related documentation for internal and external audits.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.Master’s degree or relevant certifications is a plus.

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment.Proven experience managing EHS across multiple sites or locations.In-depth knowledge of North American EHS regulations, industry standards, and best practices.Experience in risk management, environmental compliance, and developing sustainable practices.Strong understanding of EHS-related technologies and systems.

Travel is required to visit manufacturing sites across North America (approximately 25-40%).

Pay Rate:

$124,500.00 - $199,200.00
