About the role

The purpose of this role is to ensure that the UK and ROI markets’ direct tax processes (including CIT, and other supplementary returns) are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation and outsourcing where applicable) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are rigorously adhered to.

The role will implement and ensure ongoing operation of the Global Direct Tax, controls and automation tools under the new Tax Operating model.

Scope of role covers preparing, reviewing CIT, WHT and connected returns.  This requires interaction with the Corporate Tax Analysts, a number of functions including both markets and central functions with a special focus on statutory compliance and financial controlling teams.

Accountabilities

- Preparing, (or supporting the preparation of - depending on the level of outsourcing), and in some cases reviewing, CIT returns and connected supplementary returns. In accordance with global standard process and controls, utilising automation tools where applicable.

- Support the annual transfer pricing processes, ensuring Diageo’s transfer pricing principles are reflected in the CIT returns Proving information for routine CIT, WHT and other direct tax related audit enquiries and projects for your markets under the supervisory of the Direct Tax Lead.

- WHT calculation, return preparation and data gathering Ensuring compliance with market specific regulatory requirements and legislative changes working closely with Direct Tax Lead, Tax Business Partner and Outsourced service provider.

- Preparing (and in some cases reviewing) balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring these are done on time and in an internal and external control compliant way. Actively leading and coordinating tax document retention for your markets.

- Working with the Global Outsource Provider on Tax reporting processes including Classification and input of permanent and temporary differences into Tax Provision Tool (OTP) for P10 reporting Prior year adjustment calculations Review and reconciliation of tax payments in OTP Tax Provision calculation roll forward Supplying to continuous process improvement- through establishing a LEAN approach to drive effectiveness and efficiency- of direct tax compliance.

- Supporting the new controls and KPI report implementation, monitoring the implemented KPI-s, supporting investigation of the root-cause or errors and working with end-to-end processes to improve KPIs.

- Promptly responding to market queries in respect of markets in their responsibility and supporting direct tax leaders, business partners, SME-s in non-routine questions, projects, and during tax audits in their proficiency

What you'll bring

Experience at an operational level in direct tax, with 2-3 years of experience in direct tax environment

ATT exam or ongoing training is an advantage

Experience with transitions and project management is an advantage

Experience in working with coordinated software system (SAP) is an advantage

Experience of Tax Reporting, Statutory Compliance and IFRS

Qualified accountant, tax advisor degree is an advantage

Strong Financial process understanding at an operational level in direct tax and tax reporting

Good numerical skills and confident excel usage

Able to work with tight deadlines

Flexibility for adopting to change with positive attitude. Excellent communication skills able to build positive relationships with operational staff and partners

Strong communication and influencing skills

Strong risk leadership skills, ability to follow-up/flag potential issues

Fluent English spoken and written

Willing for the capability building
