Direct Support Specialist ($17.00 to $18.50 per hour) Rochester, NY (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Rochester+NY) Description FUNCTION:Urban League of Rochester is looking for dedicated individuals that want to make a difference working with and supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities HOURS:FULL TIME: 30+ hours per week. PART TIME: 20 hours with a minimum of 17.5 billable service hours in specific programs. PER DIEM: Is filling in for a Full or Part time Direct Support Professional and as such hours can very each week. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Assist with the evaluation of skill and interest levels of people supported. 2.Assist with the person supported and their team in the development and implementation of goals that the person supported would like to work on. 3.As assigned provide each person with training and supervision in daily living skills, budgeting, and money management, meal planning and preparation, shopping for groceries and other items, housekeeping, leisure time activities, appearance and personal hygiene, travel training, interpersonal and communication skills 4.Provide emotional support, companionship, and encouragement to promote independence. 5.Support and provide a safe and inclusive environment that respects the dignity and rights of each person supported. Assist, as assigned in the maintenance, cleaning and security of work areas. 6.Documents progress and outcomes and events for the people supported as required in an accurate and timely manner. 7.Plans and engages people supported in community-based activities, outings, and social events. 8.Attends mandatory training sessions and endeavors to stay updated on best practices in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. 9.Assist in obtaining recommended services by making referrals, coordinating services with other agencies, and helping make transportation arrangements or transports as assigned. 10.Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 11.Attends and supports Urban League of Rochester events and fundraising functions, specifically ULR Membership Drive and United Way Campaign Communication and Documentation: + Maintain clear and open communication with clients, their families, and the interdisciplinary team. + Document client progress, health records, and incidents accurately and in a timely manner. + Report any changes in client behavior or health to the appropriate supervisors. Training and Development: + Attend mandatory training sessions and stay updated on best practices in the field of developmental disabilities. + Seek opportunities for professional growth and skill development. Requirements Qualifications: + High School diploma or GED considered with equivalent experience. + Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. + Preference will be given to those with relevant education and/or experience with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Knowledge of good daily living skills. + Must have own transportation available daily and a clean driving record. + Must be able to tolerate and handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. + Ability to relate well with others, a team player with a positive can-do attitude. + Functional automobile with insurance limitations – required for certain positions.
