The Dimensional Designer will develop tools, techniques, and systems that support the design and delivery process at WDI. An experienced model builder who is familiar with various types of models making such as physical dimensional models, architectural, miniatures, and digital 3D models as well as full-size mock-ups/prototypes. Must possess a good sense of design and have the ability to visualize and translate from two-dimensional information to three-dimensional product. May lead others and develop a strong working relationship with related teams (Architecture, Production Design, Show Set Design, Special Effects, etc.). You will report to the Manager, Dimensional Design. This is a Project Hire position without any guarantee of permanent placement. **What You Will Do** + Work with project teams to establish goals and understand project requirements. + Responsible for inventory and ordering or shop equipment, machinery and materials. + Responsible for logging, documenting and tracking physical model inventory. + Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of shop equipment. + Responsible for reviewing safety checklist with fellow Imagineers to evaluate their comfort and experience in using various machinery. + Communicate effectively with various Directors (Creative/Art etc.), provide creative feedback from a mockup standpoint and help drive decision making. + Have a good sense of design and the ability to visualize and produce models in 3-D. + Collaborate with various subject areas and work with other team members in developing ideas. + Design, develop and produce high caliber models both physical and digital using state of the art equipment and techniques that show artistic intent and integrate multiple teams. + Participate in brainstorming sessions for new ride/attraction ideas. + May be assigned to multiple projects including “Blue Sky” design studio, scenic illusions, and various capital authorized projects. + Determine type of model and strategy to produce model working from a drawing package. + Coordinate projects for single small to moderate size venues. + Determine and direct mock-up and staging efforts. + Lead all aspects of design and production progress to schedule and budget and advise on impact of all proposed changes. + Research new/existing materials relative to company standards and applicability to project goals. **Required Qualifications & Skills** + Minimum of 2 years of practical applied experience in model building, or related experience in entertainment industry. + Must have architectural and/or digital model building experience. + Understand and be able to translate drawing packages. + Experience with methods of fabrication and production and knowledge of a variety of materials. + Ability to lead projects to include estimating and leading budgets and schedules. + Must have good carpentry, fabrication skills, and an understanding of hand and power tools. + Knowledge of show requirements for special effects, lighting, media design + Construction, fabrication, sculpting, painting, and drawing skills. + Theme Park experience a plus. + Travel may be required. **Education** + Bachelor’s degree in theater, fine arts or environmental design preferred, not required. **Additional Information** Benefits and Perks: Disney offers a rewards package to help you live your best life. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
