Digital Production Assistant
Position Number: 008016 Department: Library (Adm) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 12 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Digitize special collections and university archives materials, including fulfilling patron reproduction requests in a timely manner + Collaborate with the Digital Production Librarian to establish policies and procedures for digitizing special collections and university archives materials for both internal and external constituencies + Describe digitized materials using metadata standards that are applicable to the administration, preservation, and description of digitized materials + Edit digitized materials using image editing software and participate in quality control measures for digitized materials + Maintain digitized assets using applicable data management and/or digital object management software + Upload collections to the digital repository + Collaborate with other Special Collections staff members to promote the unit through its social media channels by researching and writing social media posts and selecting and digitizing appropriate images + Collaborate with other Special Collections staff members to incorporate digitized materials in instruction and exhibit planning + Provide reference services in the Special Collections reading room Minimum Experience / Education: Required Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or high school and five years of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. University Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or high school and five years of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: Education & Experience: + Bachelor’s degree with one year of experience in a library, museum, archives, or other cultural heritage organization OR a + High school diploma with five years of experience in a related field. Technical Knowledge: + Experience digitizing analog materials. + Proficiency in imaging hardware (scanners, cameras) and image editing software. + Understanding of metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS , METS ). Information & Data Management: + Ability to manage digitized assets using applicable data management software. + Familiarity with controlled vocabularies and technical terminologies. + Library & Research Support experience + Ability to assist patrons in Special Collections reading rooms. + Experience in retrieving and organizing archival research materials. Communication & Collaboration: + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to train and supervise student workers and interns. + Willingness to work with community partners on digitization projects.
