Position Summary
This internship provides hands-on experience delivering impactful nutrition education to youth in Dayton Public Schools, with a focus on food security, cultural appreciation, and self-sufficiency. Interns will work closely with elementary and middle school students through interactive cooking classes, nutrition lessons, and gardening projects.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead nutrition and cooking classes for students ages 6-15, adapting lessons to age groups. Collaborate with students on cultural and thematic recipes, ensuring they learn practical cooking skills. Co-teach classes with support from experienced staff, gradually transitioning to independent leadership. Prepare healthy meals and snacks for students during classes and events, emphasizing food security. Facilitate monthly salad bars featuring culturally themed menus. Integrate gardening and sustainability education, using produce grown in school gardens and hoop houses. Maintain accurate records of activities, lesson plans, and program impacts.
