Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a technical position that performs various functions in the WIC certification process and in accordance with regulations stated in DHM 150-24. These functions include gathering and reporting anthropometric and hematological data, determining income eligibility, and issuing program benefits on EBT card. The employee must be able to work with all clients in a fair and impartial manner and adhere to all confidential and security rules and regulations as set forth in the assigned data sets. Complies with all standards accompanying this position. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the integrity and confidentiality of data sets under his/her control. The incumbent in this position will come to work and exhibit an attitude of friendliness and eager customer service towards all clients and act respectfully and courteously to fellow employees and clients.
Obtains demographic and health data through telephone and face to face interviews with current and potential WIC Program participants and inputs client information into the FL-WiSE system. Determines income eligibility of current and potential WIC program participants based on federal and state income guidelines and procedures for determining program eligibility. Determines Medicaid eligibility through the FL-WiSE system and FLMMIS to determine adjunctive eligibility for the WIC Program. Evaluates program eligibility status of each client to ensure a valid benefit issuance can be performed. Issues FL-WiSE EBT benefits to certified participants in accordance with procedures outlined in DHM 150-24 and the FL-WiSE WIC System Guide.
Performs and records accurate measurements for WIC clients for lengths/heights, weights and hemoglobins. Uses CDC approved equipment correctly and follows established protocols for obtaining accurate data. Reviews growth graphs or/and grids for women, infants and children in FL-WiSE. Performs hemoglobin tests on WIC clients as needed for certification and nutrition care plan recommendations. Records data accurately in FL-WiSE. Regularly checks blood-testing equipment and length/height, weight equipment for accuracy per company standards. Adheres to all medical protocols and safety standards to ensure the health of all clients and employees. Reviews and verifies the immunization records and status of all children. Responsible for verifying immunization data in FL SHOTS and following procedures to ensure clients receive delinquent immunizations. Facilitates coordination of these services when needed. Must be a team player and assist in clinic wherever needed. Adheres to Florida Department of Health Information Security policies and procedures. Is key custodian of assigned areas.
Certifies participants for WIC in accordance with federal requirements and Florida Department of Health WIC policies and guidelines. Accurately determines a nutritional/health risk for certification through individual nutrition assessments and evaluations of health data obtained for current WIC clients that are at low nutritional risk. Will refer high risk clients to Dietitian on staff or Nutriton Educator within 45 days of certification or contact. Provides appropriate WIC food packages to clients based on individually assessed information and current rules in place. Documents all utilizing the SOAP method of Problem Oriented Recording in Florida WiSE. Provides professional nutrition counseling and follow up to clients in accordance with established care plan, nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion requirements in DHM 150-24. Participates in VENA (Value, Enhanced Nutrition Assessment) principles that include critical thinking, open-ended questions, readiness for change and client centered goal setting.
Submits reports and assigned duties within required time frames; including but not limited to weekly, monthly, and quarterly FL WiSE reports assigned. Completes assigned inventories in a timely manner. Responsible for Voter Registration weekly so that timely submission is reached. Provides support for ordering and inventory for exempt infant formula and WIC-eligible nutritional's along with support for processing invoices for exempt infant formula and WIC-eligible nutritional’s to standards of which comply with Section 215.422, Florida Statutes and Chapter 69I-24, Florida Administrative Code. Coordinates with WIC Director and staff on ordering and inventory management. Attends meetings, serves on committees, and performs other duties as required. Travels to various clinic sites as scheduled.
Schedules appointments for participants/potential participants through the WIC FL WiSE System. Answers questions regarding access to WIC program services. Refers participants to appropriate health department services, other state programs and/or to applicable community agencies and organizations. Performs follow-up activities regarding referrals for WIC program services and for missed WIC program certification appointments. Any other duties assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Talking to others to effectively convey information, communicating effectively with others in writing. Ability to interview clients and obtain medical history. Enters, transcribes, records, stores, or maintains information for clinic function. Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques, Ability to develop individual nutrition and breastfeeding goals with clients. Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition and dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health or disease. Knowledge of basic medical terminology/techniques, basic computer skills; operate within FL WiSE for daily clinic function. Ability to take accurate height/length and weight measurements as well as hemoglobin test for client services. Problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to manage time and organize and coordinate work assignments. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and speaking English.
Qualifications:
Minimum – Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred – Previous WIC, healthcare, nutrition counseling, or clinical experience, bilingual in Spanish
