Diesel Mechanic


Alaska Waste, a Waste Connections company, is now hiring for a safety conscious Diesel Mechanic to join the team at our location in Seward, AK! Previous waste experience would be a huge plus!

The pay range will be $30.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Tool allowance of $1,200.00 a year and a boot allowance of $200.00 as well. We also offer regular wage increases, great family benefits, and stable, year-round work.

The schedule will be Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays as needed. The shift will be from 10:00am-6:00pm.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services. Performs inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulics, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.Utilize vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities Include:

Collaborate with other diesel mechanics and has strong interpersonal skillsDemonstrates time management, organization, and problem-solving skillsStrong customer service skills with driversManage the repairs of electrical and mechanical componentsManage routine maintenanceEnsure quality repairs are made while meeting guidelinesService a wide variety of equipmentMaintain current CDL license to test drive and deliver as neededSpecialize in Cummins and Paccar enginesMaintain a log in computer system of all the history of repairs to each jobMaintain equipment in clean and working conditionClimb ladders and stairs, work in small restrict areas and lift up to 40 poundsFollows all Waste Connections repair shop regulations and standards

Qualified candidate must have:

Tool set, toolbox and proper personal safety equipment requiredBasic computer skills and ability to learn test diagnostic laptop and softwareClass B CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of start of positionYellow Iron experience is a huge plusWelding experience a plusMinimum of a High School diploma or GED
