Diabetes Education Registered Dietitian

Status: Full Time

Job Summary:

The Diabetes Clinician assists in the coordination of care and education of the patient with diabetes. The diabetes clinician acts as a consultant for the nursing staff, uses evidence-based practice when teaching staff and patients. The diabetes clinician may participate in staff development and continuing education in addition to patient education.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job.  He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

1. Collaborates with providers and clinical staff to define and implement the plan of care for the care of patients with diabetes and their families.

2. Serves as a resource to staff and management for patient care needs.

3. Implements educational programs for outpatients, family, and community for Diabetes Self-Management, Medical Nutrition Therapy and Diabetes Prevention.

4. Provides education for inpatients and families.

5. Collaborates and consults with other disciplines within the system and in the community.

6. Represents Baptist Health in the community.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:

A.   Licensed Dietitian in Kentucky.

B.   Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or registry eligible (must achieve Registered Dietitian credential within 3 months of

      date of hire.)

C.   Evidence of continuing education with emphasis on area of practice.

D.   Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) preferred. If not currently a CDE, candidate must actively work toward obtaining CDE within 2 years of employment.

E.   One year work experience as a registered dietitian preferred

F.    BCLS

G.   Membership in specialty organization (recommended but not required.)
