JOB DESCRIPTION Our DevOps teams are tightly coupled and integrated with the culture, tools, practices and patterns of the rest of our software engineering organization. They not only “keep the lights on” for our systems and networks, but also empower our other development teams with cutting edge tools and capabilities to bring Vertafore products to market as quickly as possible. All of this will be accomplished with cutting edge, lean-agile, software development methodologies. One day you might be working to automate infrastructure deployment, making sure that we can build database clusters with one command. The day after you might be working with a team to make sure that they have a great build and release process. DevOps plays many roles in the organization, and you’ll be working on CI/CD processes, production support, infrastructure as code, and a multitude of other technologies. Core Requirements and Responsibilities: Qualifications: + Have experience working with various operating systems. Primarily Windows and Linux. + Have an understanding of how code is written. Though as DevOps we don’t write a lot of Java or C# code, it’s helpful to understand how the teams work. + Have experience in one or more scripting languages. We use a lot of Python and some PowerShell, but experience in other scripting languages is useful as well. + Are eager to dive in and learn, with a willingness to be coached + Enjoy solving problems as part of a team + Have a strong sense of ownership + Strong diagnostic and analytical skills + Follow industry trends and the open source community + Care about quality and know what it means to ship high quality code and infrastructure + Are curious and avid learners + Communicate clearly to explain and defend design decisions + Are self-motivated and excellent problem-solvers + Mentor and inspire others to raise the bar for everyone around them + Love to collaborate with their peers, designing pragmatic solutions + Operate best in a fast-paced, flexible work environment + Have experience working in an Agile environment + Experience with windows OS + Have degree in Computer Science or similar valuable experience + Have some experience with cloud technologies. We use AWS and Azure, but all cloud technologies are useful. + Know what “Infrastructure as Code” means + Have experience with one or more infrastructure automation tools (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, etc..) + Understand what goes into a CI/CD pipeline + Have used one or more build tools (Jenkins, GitLab, VSTS,etc..) Additional Requirements and Details: + Travel required up to 10% of the time. + Located and working from an office location. + Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds. + Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements required to operate a computer. + Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (working on a computer, etc.). + Frequent sitting and/or standing.
