Job DescriptionThe position will be on the Embelex Product Materials Team, evaluating new materials, working with new suppliers, supporting new product development and providing root cause analysis to resolve any material-based quality issues.
The position is part of a global ‘Embelex Product Team', with responsibility for supporting the materials used in our current global production of Embelex products (products used to decorate garments, for example, Heat Transfer Labels)
As a member of the Materials Team, you will work to identify new suppliers and materials, design material testing plans and evaluate the suitability of new materials for use in our Embelex Products.
Sustainability is also a key focus area for this team when selecting new materials.
You will use your chemistry / technical expertise knowledge to validate prototype criteria.
In this role, you will need to have experience with hands-on lab analysis of coatings, inks, adhesives, and films. You will also support manufacturing pilot and scale-up trials in conjunction with the Product Team.
You will use your knowledge of chemistry and technical expertise to support and advise on Compliance requirements, such as Restricted Substances, Raw Material Specifications (RMS) and Incoling Quality Check (IQC) methods for materials.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE :
Periodically review work with a senior staff member, project leader, and/or the technical manager /directorProvide detailed documentation for product attributes and supports the technical datasheets for the new materialsProduct/process development investigations of existing proprietary and novel materialsDetermine if requirements for materials are achieved and establish failure ranges.Utilising chemistry / technical knowledge to validate that prototype criteria are met and provide detailed reports supporting the feasibility / development stages.Technical scouting for new materialsConducting material tests, recording observations and compiling test reportsPosition requires hands-on lab preparation of coatings, inks, adhesives, as well as supervising manufacturing pilot and scale up trials in collaboration with engineering and operations.Position will involve travel and meeting material suppliersQualificationsB.S. in the sciences with 2+ years experience or MS degree with coating background with specific degrees in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Surface/ Coatings Science, preferredExperiences in the following areas are also important: polyurethane; epoxy; vinyl and polyester, pigments, dyes, adhesive systems for both solvent and water on plastic, paper and textile substrates..Excellent English language (written and verbal) skills is a requirementExcellent computer skillsGood organization, planning skill and attention to detailAbility to interact effectively with both internal cross-functional teams and external partners.The position requires excellent problem-solving skills with high levels of motivation, initiative and energy.Able to work independently and within a teamWorking knowledge of current digital printing methods, technology, suppliers, and related chemical systems.Experience with manufacturing methods used in the dispersion of pigmented systems, mixing, coating, and printingKnowledge of fabric/yarn manufacturing processes, printing directly onto fabricKnowledge of Heat Transfer Label manufacturing processKnowledge relevant to sustainability or environmental studiesAdditional Information
