Desktop Editor I

As a member of the Desktop Team, the applicant will be required to:

1. Proficiently perform desktop publishing functions using Adobe Creative Suite- InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to format production-ready files for offline and online print products, including: covers and prelims, front matter, indexes, and graphics.

2. Acquire data from various structures to create and enhance design and layout for printed library and e-book covers.  Data includes Covers and Prelims, Indexes, Front Matter, Admin Codes, Online Checklist- MS Word files, Various Desktop and Graphics.

3. Ensure accurate and timely delivery of all scheduled deliverables.

4. Initiate final product output extraction delivery per schedule or signoff by content owners.

5. Perform rules- based quality assurance/proof review as part of accelerated desktop editing process, by following established standards, along with verification of specific styling, format, and standardization rules. 

6. Meet and/or exceed established quality and production metrics.

7. Monitor, track, and report on status of work to stakeholders for publications and products through the Desktop Workflow Management SharePoint.

8. Assist in creating and maintaining documentation, training, and evaluating work of other group members.

9. Participate in or lead project efforts, as assigned by manager.

 10. Assist production and development staff with functionality enhancements.

11. Identify and implement new process and procedural opportunities.

Qualifications:

Must possess a bachelor’s degree in any field.Strong analytical, organizational, written/oral communication skills and attention to detail.Technical knowledge: Basic computer skills; MS Office applications (Outlook, SharePoint, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Office Communicator, etc); familiarity with the Internet and online information searching.Arbortext, XML, or Adobe experience will be considered an asset.Multitasking capabilities and flexibility to adjust to a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.Ability to adapt to and accept change.Ideal candidate will be an outgoing team player, out-of-the-box thinker and positivist who is willing to be challenged on a regular basis and has a demonstrated desire and willingness to learnThe ability to deal with conflicting prioritiesStrong editorial skills - excellent spelling and grammar
