Description of Work Unit
The CSU Spur campus, located at the National Western Center in Denver, Colorado houses three buildings focused on water, food and agriculture, human and animal health, and sustainability. Within the Spur buildings, CSU conducts research and convenes experts from around the globe; students of all ages engage with science and have opportunities for exploratory learning, transforming their thinking about food, water, and health, and the careers available in these fields; and partners join in programming the space and bring evolving content to the year-round campus.

Position Summary
The Design Thinking Summer Camp Co-Instructor will work alongside a lead instructor to co-facilitate a one-week, half-day summer camp focused on creative problem solving, user-centered design, and hands-on prototyping. The camp serves middle and high school students with an interest in innovation, design, sustainability, and teamwork.
Position Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a human services or STEM -related field
+ Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring youth (camp, formal classroom, or after-school settings).
+ experience with core design thinking tools and methods (empathy mapping, ideation, prototyping, testing).
Preferred Qualifications
+ Outgoing, approachable, and able to adapt activities on the fly to suit learners’ needs
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
+ Experience working in a makerspace or coordinating fabrication equipment
+ Strong judgment and decision-making skills
+ Possess basic computer and website navigation skills
+ Proficient in all Microsoft Office software
+ Strong written and verbal communications skills, with college-level writing skills and fluency in the English language
+ Ability to engage internal and external staff and the public in dialogue, including to share information at events
+ Ability to handle multiple, time-bound tasks in an efficient and accurate manner
+ Demonstrated ability to evaluate requests and determine urgency/priority
+ Prompt and concise written/verbal communication skills

Duty/Responsibility
+ Co-facilitate daily design thinking workshops, guiding campers through empathy, ideation, prototyping, and testing exercises
+ Collaborate with lead instructor to deliver lesson plans and adapt content for varying skill levels
+ Support setup, cleanup, and safety checks of tools, materials, and workspaces in the makerspace located at The Shop at Spur.
+ Provide hands-on coaching to small teams of campers, ensuring an inclusive and engaging learning environment
+ Assist with camper check-in/out, manage attendance, and help troubleshoot logistical issues (snacks, breaks, equipment needs)
+ Participate in daily debriefs to reflect on successes and suggest improvements for subsequent sessions
