The Role:
We are seeking a forward-thinking Workplace Safety Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in driving our commitment to a safe and innovative workplace by developing and implementing innovative workplace safety programs and protocols at the initial stages of product, facility, and process design. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a passion for integrating advanced technologies and innovative solutions to enhance workplace safety.
The Workplace Safety Engineer will have a passion for integration of innovative technologies and proactive workplace safety processes for the early resolution of exposure to hazards and risk. This individual will understand the product development and launch process in global operations with a vision for new and innovative approaches and is accountable for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice and coaching to site/functional operations from the initial stages of product, facility, and process design.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
Provide Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice and coaching to site/functional operations.
Proactively identify potential Serious Incidents and Fatalities (SIF) in innovative technologies, modified assets, and systems.
Participate/Organize Risk Assessment events for new products, facilities, or processes at preliminary stages of the design with an emphasis on proactive elimination of safety exposures
Shape the future implementation of Design-in Safety within GM and strategic partners.
Explore valuable connections with external organizations that can bring valuable learnings for GM safety solutions.
Understand the product development and launch process in global operations and envision new and innovative approaches.
Collaborate with product and manufacturing engineering to create and update Design-In Safety specifications for application on future programs.
Develop and educate site employees to drive Workplace Safety cultural transformation.
Build partnerships with key personnel at Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing sites globally.
Communicate proficiently at all organizational levels (e.g., shop floor to executives).
Understand global, national, and local standards and regulatory requirements relevant to job duties.

Prior experience in Manufacturing Operations and/or Safety professional
Competency in devising Health and Safety strategies and implementing safety management systems for maintaining productive conditions.
Ability to influence without authority
Bachelor’s degree (Engineering &/or Safety) with 5+ years of leadership roles in Engineering, Workplace Safety or Manufacturing Equivalent.
Prior experience in Industrial Hygiene &/or workplace ergonomics
Working knowledge in business application software (Microsoft office, SharePoint, Power BI) and other related electronic tools.
Competency in devising Health and Safety strategies and implementing safety management systems for maintaining productive conditions.
Awareness about Statutory and Regulatory Compliances
