Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) has restored the Design For Service (DFS) organization to improve vehicle serviceability during Forward Model vehicle Platform, Technology, and Program development.  The DFS Commodity Manager is responsible for leading DFS Commodity Specialists, which function as a primary FCSD interface to the Product Development Forward Model Development (Platform/Program/Unit/Technology) teams. The DFS Commodity Manager and team will be focused on Underbody, Transmission, and Chassis.

Masters Degree3+ years of experience leading a treamKey knowledge/experience preferred:Technical acumen related to assembly/disassembly of mechanical systems/components, as well as technical publicationsFamiliarity and experience with Dealer Operations strongly preferred (specifically tied to Fixed Operations)Knowledge of Product Development processes and vehicle development production system preferred (knowledge of competitive OEMs processes are welcome)Experience in leading a team preferred

What you'll do…

The DFS Commodity Team’s core responsibilities:

Improve serviceability in future product designs Proactively work with PD Platform/Program/Unit/Technology teams to influence design for improved serviceability and overall customer ownership experience.Engage assigned PD teams in early design milestones to positively influence vehicle serviceability, reduce Cost of Ownership, and increase quality of repairsIdentify/Champion resolution of High Impact Serviceability ActionsMonitor service requirements; introduce new requirements, identify improvements, manage revisions, and ensure service requirements are met or have an approved deviation.Identify required Essential Special Service Tools (ESSTs) and work with PD to secure funding.Support delivery of the targeted Warranty Cost Avoidance $ objective through identification and implementation of serviceability improvement opportunities (example: reducing service labor times for a given repair, eliminating need for Essential Special Service Tools (ESSTs), servicing at a lower component level)Deliver common and efficient global processesLead effort to define new service strategies and support dealer service strategy.Lead effort to define service strategy for introduction of commodity related technology.Lead advance service engineering effort to influence GTDS integration and GPDS development to ensure design for service is integrated into critical advanced workstreams. Support updating of DFS processes to align with the new PD development system (GPDS) and best practicesCulture/Our TruthsRole model the Ford OS behaviors & develop team to achieve success in Excellence, Focus and Collaboration Promote/embrace work life balance toolsConduct Individual Development Plan meetings and ensure implementation Utilize empowerment, coaching & counseling w/actional feedback, team building and process improvements to create a work atmosphere that develops employees to their fullest potential.
