Design Engineer - Gear Shifting Systems for E-Propulsion

Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

E-Mobility Gear Shifting Systems

Do you want to be part of Scania's journey towards future sustainable transport solutions? We are looking for a Design Engineer for our gear shifting systems within the e-propulsion project! If you have a passion for engineering and experience in CAD, drawing creation, requirements specification, and are interested in working with components such as castings, pneumatics, and seals, then this role is for you!

About Us

Our team is responsible for the development and installation of gear shifting systems for Scania's Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The team consists of 16 engineers, two sub-project manager, and a group manager, and we value diversity in experience, nationalities, genders, and ages. Our team atmosphere can be described as inclusive, collaborative, and relaxed. We support each other and enjoy our work!

We focus on maintaining modularity, keeping in mind Scania's production processes, service workshops, and the driver.

Your Assignment

As a Design Engineer within our group, you will be expected to:

Drive your technical area forward, taking ownership of the development and optimization of your system.  Work hands-on with CAD to create and refine designs, ensuring they meet requirements and standards. Define and develop test procedures for the verification and validation of new components and systems, ensuring robustness and reliability. Perform risk analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues. Collaborate effectively across departments to communicate technical information clearly and work closely with suppliers to understand both technical and commercial aspects, such as cost implications of changes and mutually beneficial design improvements. Your Profile

To succeed in this role, you should be driven, proactive, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You should enjoy taking initiative, making decisions, and getting things done. You should also be open to helping others, be humble, ask questions, and communicate clearly. It’s essential to be eager to learn and be resourceful in finding answers when faced with obstacles rather than waiting for solutions.

We would also like you to have:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience. Ideally, 2-5 years of work experience as a mechanical engineer. Experience or a solid understanding of CAD, drawing creation, and specifications. Experience with manufacturing processes, components such as castings, pneumatics, and seals. Fluent in English, both written and spoken; fluency in Swedish is a merit. Experience with FMEA and risk analysis is a merit. Previous experience in the automotive industry or similar fields is a plus.

At Scania, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t perfectly align with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles! We hire for attitude and train for skills.

What We Offer

We offer a dynamic workplace with diverse and challenging tasks in a hybrid work setup. You can work from home or at our remote office at Scania Sergel a few days a week, depending on the needs of the job. We foster a collaborative environment where everyone is encouraged to drive projects forward. As a new employee, you will receive full support from all team members, and we provide a development plan to help you reach your goals and get the right support along the way. Scania offers many opportunities to develop your career both nationally and internationally. The professional development of our employees is a priority, so education through internal and external courses is encouraged and supported.

In addition to career and development opportunities, we offer other benefits such as free training at Scania's health center, Gröndal, or a wellness allowance. You will also be offered performance bonuses, an occupational pension, flexible working hours, the opportunity to lease a car through the company, and much more. Scania also organizes several events yearly where family and friends are always welcome. If you live in Stockholm, we also offer a direct bus service between Stockholm and Södertälje with Scania Jobexpress.
