Are you passionate about Product Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Overhead Lateral Automation department. As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.
Overhead Lateral Automation (OLA) is responsible for S&C’s overhead grid automation products, mainly TripSaver II and VacuFuse 2, which are integral to our customer’s Smart Grid systems. This position is for an analytical, hands-on mechanical engineer with an interest in product support and line extensions. This position reports to the Manager - Product Engineering - OLA.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide superior engineering support for customer and production related problems Execution of design, build and test engineering plans for concept validation Presentation of significant findings, orally and in writing, to management and fellow engineers Participation in formal A3 Problem Solving events as well as Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) events for continuous improvement Creation of novel mechanical systems and integration with electro-mechanical components Definition of device and system test requirements as well as preparation of test samples and travel to outside labs, customer and supplier facilities Ability to conduct structural linear or non-linear and dynamic analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools Using 3-D modeling software to develop new parts and assemblies Creating and maintaining mechanical designs, engineering documents, and bill of materials associated with existing and new products, being responsible for mechanical functionality of assigned projects Integrating S&C automation products with other electronics and custom assemblies to meet customer specifications Preparing detailed drawings used for purposes of customer approval, manufacturing, and final assembly Working within a team environment including interacting with other design professionals and members of the sales services, production control and assembly groupsWhat you’ll Need To Succeed:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or applicable Engineering DegreeAt least 2 years of experience in a Product Sustaining role Experience creating parts, assemblies, and drawings for commercially launched products Demonstrated ability to use analysis tools and implement empirical test plans for design validation Excellent communication skills Desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment Familiar with manufacturing processes like stamping, machining, casting and injection moldingPreferred
Master’s Degree preferredPhysical Requirements:
Physical demands are those typically associated with an office environment, but may also include laboratory environments, factory environments, and customer/ field environments.
Must wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment and exercise safe practice in low-to- medium voltage environments, including development labs, test facilities, production facilities, and customer sites.
Frequent use of PC keyboard and mouse.
Proof of visual and aural acuity, or other physical suitability, as well as formal training and/ or testing and evaluation, may be required to enter or work in restricted-access areas.
Lifting: Occasional lifting of switchgear components, less than 40 pounds
