Design and Engineering Business Unit Director, Canada

Job Description

Arcadis is seeking a Business Unit Director (BUD) – Design & Engineering for the Mobility Business Area in Canada. 

This position reports to the Business Area Director and is in Canada.

Role Accountabilities: 

As a Business Unit Director, you will be accountable for Design & Engineering people, operations, and growth. Additionally, you will mentor and lead regional business unit leaders and are responsible for profitably growing the respective business unit presence in country in line with Canada Mobility strategy and financial targets. Responsibilities include: 

Implementing the Mobility strategy:

Lead the country business unit with ultimate accountability for P&L performance, service quality delivery within the unit; develop and oversee the implementation of the strategy to ensure service quality delivery, service excellence and profitable growth within the unit, to support the delivery of the line of business objectives Lead, motivate and develop a diverse team of senior specialists by recruiting, setting objectives and reviewing performance to ensure staff are developed, driven and have the necessary skills to deliver the program objectivesDevelop and implement the country business plan for the unit and ensure the team understand it, and the role that they play in its achievement, through the development of the appropriate culture and the provision of context and clarityLead the identification and targeting of clients through the delivery of service excellence to deliver growth in organic revenue and win work in the country business unit

Build strong relationships and create successful teams:  

Develop enduring relationships with clients to understand their business needs and ensure client satisfaction to improve retention and deliver organic revenue growthCoach and mentor practice group managers, service managers, project managers and technical managers within the Business Unit to ensure all projects are set up for success and appropriate governance is adhered to, with the goal of improved client satisfactionLead the identification of talent in the business unit in both technical and project delivery capability and sales and promote career development by directing individuals who are identified, to the appropriate development programsLead decisions on resource utilisation within the business unit and maintain the integrity of the unit composition and pyramid management structure to enable resource optimisationLead the identification and management of risk in service delivery and ensure compliance with governance processes in the business unit to lead to service excellence and client satisfactionMaintain an in-depth and up-to-date understanding of the business unit’s clients and the market to identify key trends and emerging opportunitiesDevelop relationships throughout Arcadis to foster cooperation and to maximise opportunities to cross-sell and trade-up

Qualifications

You should be a licensed Professional Engineer in Canada and have at least 15+ years of experience leading and growing a significant business function within a professional services firm. You will be able to inspire multi-disciplinary teams around a common purpose and demonstrate significant leadership capability.

You will have a high level of intellectual, professional, and interpersonal agility and flexibility. You will bring excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization in particular senior levels.  You are an excellent communicator and skilled at building relationships.

You have the technical knowledge to recognize and manage risk in running a design led Business Unit.  In addition, you have well developed commercial skills, with a sound knowledge of the industry and demonstrated entrepreneurial behavior.
