Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations (5-year fixed-term, performance-based contract, with an option of renewal for a further term)

1.  Strategic leadership

Provide leadership and management of the portfolio to support the academic project within the institution’s strategic direction through, amongst others: a workable and fully operational strategic plan that is aligned to the institution’s strategy aligning the relevant operations to the financials of all the portfolios and to core business

2.  Infrastructure Leadership

Infrastructure Development Provide strategic insight to physical planning Leads negotiations for new land, big buildings and big capital projects Develops management strategies ,physical development plans and building programmes Manage infrastructural development and facilities on sound business principles, costing for a surplus, generating funds, and upgrading physical resources Advises on viability/feasibility of expansions, acquisitions of properties building projects and any other related projects.

3.  Financial Leadership

Provide strategic leadership for sound CPUT planning of functions which provide accountability systems, related financial control on income and expenditure, audit and risk management within the ambit of the functions responsible for. Direct the activities associated with the security and investment of the university’s assets and funds

4.  Human Capital Leadership

Provide strategic leadership to ensure that Human Resource strategic objectives are aligned with CPUT strategic plans to ensure effective and efficient support towards aiding the University to achieve its objectives.

5.  Student Affairs

Diagnose and analyze the Student portfolio for renewal in times of complexity in HE Provide strategic direction in pursue of set out strategic objectives Establish a participative culture in reporting portfolios.

6. ICT Portfolio Strategic Direction

Strategic planning and management to lead and contribute to innovative and transformational role for ICT at the University. Direct ICT functions with strategic imperatives to achieve institutional excellence Direct ICT vision to support broad Smart University strategic objectives. Strategic portfolio support of management initiatives including projects aiming to develop and enhance CPUT's standing as a leading UOT

7.  Policy development

Participate with the Vice Chancellor and other senior managers in Institutional planning, policy development and supportive processes.

8.  Executive leadership

Take accountability for the effective operational controls, portfolio work processes, reporting procedures, systems and allocated resources to improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness, Provide strategic management and leadership as well as the alignment of the various functions to support the institution’s vision and mission and strategic plan; and their alignment with national and regional government policy initiatives

9. Performance leadership

Through the various directorships (e.g., HC, IDFM etc) provide strategic leadership by, amongst others, taking line and performance management responsibility of relevant staff within the different functions by: building a high-performing team from a broad range of professionals to deliver results against a background of significant change leading and inspiring staff, providing clear direction through a period of transition driving continuous improvement management of transformation to ensure internalisation of institutional and performance culture that supports CPUT’s mission, vision and strategic imperatives

10.  External Liaison

Proactively develops professional external liaison to form multi-level partnerships with: other academic institutions both nationally & internationally industry relevant government departments professional bodies relevant community organisations other national and international role players
