SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of multiple divisions - the San Francisco Health Network, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration. The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers. The Population Health Division (PHD) provides core public health services for the City and County of San Francisco: health protection, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and disaster preparedness and response. Behavioral Health Services operates in conjunction with SFHN and provides a range of mental health and substance use treatment services. Locations Dentists may be assigned to travel between any of the clinics currently located at Tom Waddell, Potrero Hill, Southeast, Chinatown, Silver Avenue Family Health Centers, Youth Guidance Center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, or new sites to be announced. Essential Duties Under the general direction of the Dental Director, the 2210 Dentist provides professional dental services to patients and instructs patients in correct oral hygiene and dental care. The essential job functions include the following: + Participates, as part of a multidisciplinary team, in the care of patients in San Francisco Health Network health services + Performs oral examinations, using X-ray and other special equipment as required + Makes diagnoses and performs restorations, extractions, prophylactic and other dental work as necessary + Performs dental operations and treats mouth diseases following the appropriate standard of care + Refers cases requiring difficult oral surgery and medical attention to the proper department + Confers with physicians regarding medical-dental problems + Instructs patients on oral hygiene and dental care + Supervises on site dental team members pursuant to the California Dental Practice Act + Instructs nurses, interns, and dental assistants in dental procedures + Documents clinical services performed and supplies and materials used, per standard of care and following clinical policy and prepares any related reports + Utilizes appropriate billing practices ⚠️Required Before Applying⚠️ + Possession of a valid license to practice dentistry issued by the state board of dental examiners AND + Completion of the curriculum of an approved school of dentistry and possession of the D.D.S. degree AND + One year of full-time experience in the general practice of dentistry One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a forty-hour work week). Overtime hours worked above forty hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment. Desirable Qualifications + Desire to work with patients who have multiple chronic problems, which may include medical, mental health, substance abuse, and psychosocial problems. + Knowledge of the principles and practice of general dentistry and dental surgery and of hospital and clinic routine. + Ability to apply modern methods, and practices of general dentistry and dental surgery. + Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with dental patients. + Ability to operate all types of dental equipment and machinery. + Sensitivity to and experience working with ethnically, and culturally diverse individuals, communities, agencies and organizations. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, medical providers, community organizations and the public. + Good communication and organizational skills. + Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel Databases, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher. + Bilingual desired, especially Spanish, Cantonese/Mandarin.
