Job Purpose:

The Dean: Academic is accountable for overseeing and providing strategic academic leadership to the total academic project, inclusive of teaching-learning in contact and distance mode of offering, qualifications development and accreditation, lecturer academic development support, student academic development and support, student wellness services and support, scholarly research and innovation, community engagement and library and information services, on a brand level. Strategic academic leadership extends to national and regional/ international context(s).

Furthermore, the Academic: Dean is accountable for ensuring a student-centric enabled academic environment, cost-effective management of academic costs/ budgets, relevant and sustainable qualifications program mix (PQM), widening student access and enabling student cohort growth, academic excellence aimed at student academic access, retention, and success, mitigating academic risk leveraging digital structures, establishing governance and strategic stakeholder relations, and retaining and developing high-calibre academic staff, aligned with strategic business goals.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop and implement the overall Rosebank College (RC) National Academic Programme and Plan:Implement measures to ensure the enablement of a student-centric academic environment through the rollout of relevant supporting initiatives.Monitor and oversee initiatives such as Teaching-Leaching (TL), academic support, wellness support, LIS/ information services support, research scholarship and relevant qualifications aligned with Rosebank College's organisational promises.Set and measure the success of various programmes to support the achievement of the National Academic programme.Develop and implement the Academic Operating ModelDefine the Academic operating model to support the achievement of all relevant programmes.Plan and manage academic resources effectively.Approve and ensure development of a strong academic team.Implement and monitor compliance to Academic policies and Process.Management of the Academic Excellence:Monitor and oversee the provision of quality education practice and support are rendered, aimed at student academic access, retention and success.Monitor cohort input trends and success rates.Assess and mitigate risks in terms of student success.Manage and oversee a relevant and sustainable qualifications program mix (PQM).Leverage digital TL support technology and data-driven TL insights to mitigate academic risk and enable TL at RC.Oversee and monitor success of Qualifications Planning.Continuous systemic review of TL scholarship enquiries/ data to inform, refine and improve teaching-learning practices, with the support of library and information services towards academic excellence.Oversee and Manage the Academic Project.Governance and Strategic Stakeholder Relations Management:Maintain strategic relations with internal-, external-, and institutional stakeholders.Financial and Budget management.Reporting and executive functions:Compile and submit exco reports relating to portfolio status.Oversee graduations across campuses.People Management:Conduct performance planning sessions, track and monitor performance in accordance with performance contracts.Conduct performance reviews in accordance with policies and procedures and take corrective actions where necessaryComplete Performance Management contracts and documentationProvide coaching and feedback to employees on how to improve and sustain their performanceManage Personal Development conversations and the completion of Personal Development PlansLead the department by managing appointments, promotions, and industrial relations issues in conjunction with the Human Resources Support Service UnitEnsure that disciplinary actions are implemented as per the company’s policy and procedure where necessary.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications

NQF Level 10 Qualification in Education Management

Experience

8 – 10 years’ experience in senior or strategic education management or academic leadership role(s).
