We are seeking to create a pipeline for the next generation of arts journalists with a program for aspiring critics and writers. The position will be based with Datebook, our guide to arts and entertainment in the Bay Area covering film, music, theater and more. All Bay Area college students, including community college students or students who will have recently completed their associate or bachelor's degree, are encouraged to apply. This paid 12-week internship typically goes from June to August.

Requirements:
This position is based in San Francisco. Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required as events warrant. The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

Duties:
• Receive training and mentoring from editors and colleagues across departments.
• Report and write news articles for the Chronicle and datebook.sfchronicle.com that reflect the diversity of the arts and audiences in the Bay Area.

What we're looking for:
• Overall: Someone who believes in the arts, is hungry to chase stories that haven't been told and is eager to develop skills that engage readers through compelling headlines, visuals, graphics and other multimedia. Strong writing skills are important, as is a dedication to accuracy, fairness and inclusiveness.

• Newsroom experience: Strong college publication experience or previous internships preferred, but not required.

Please include in your application a portfolio of your work or links to your designs, along with brief explanations of your role in the execution of the pieces. Your role could include brainstorming, researching, art directing collaborators, project coordination, and design and coding.
