GKN Automotive is part of Dowlais Group plc, a specialist engineering group focused on the automotive sector. **What you’ll do:** The Database Solutions Specialist SQL will craft, standardise, maintain, and administer Microsoft SQL Server databases. This role is needed to ensure the efficient performance, security, and availability of our databases to support our organisational goals and business needs. **Database Design and Implementation** Plan and implement installations, upgrades, and migrations including cloud—Standardise management to improve system administration and operational efficiency. Collaborate with developers to craft and optimise schemas, queries, and indexes. **System Administration** Improve infrastructure for better performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Use monitoring tools to address performance issues proactively. Resolve bottlenecks and tune queries, indexes, and configurations. **Security and Compliance** Implement and maintain security standard processes. Perform regular updates, patches, and security configurations, minimise downtime and ensure data integrity. **Maintenance and Support** Provide support for database issues, including on-call support. Monitor growth and plan for future capacity. Optimise storage and resource usage. Offer technical support and fixes for internal teams. Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. **What you’ll need:** + Proven track record as an MS SQL Systems Administrator or in a similar role + Solid grasp of SQL Server architecture, administration, and performance tuning. + Experience with backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and database security best practices. Proficiency in T-SQL and experience with database development. Experience in query tuning, index optimisation, and performance troubleshooting. + Knowledge of cloud-based database services, architecture, and best practices for scalability and performance. Demonstrable experience in migrating databases to cloud platforms or centralisations.
