Database Engineer

Leidos is looking for a Database Engineer to support a large U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) program.  The Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is responsible for enforcing federal antitrust laws and promoting fair competition in the marketplace.  The Database Engineer will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and management of databases and associated infrastructure, with a focus on Azure cloud services, SQL Server, Apache Tomcat, and Data Bricks. This role will involve database maintenance, data pipeline creation, performance tuning, and reporting solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience in database engineering and a desire to develop their expertise in cloud environments, analytics, and big data technologies. This work is located onsite in the DC area.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer and manage Azure SQL Databases, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.

Optimize cloud-based databases for cost, performance, and scalability within the Azure ecosystem.

Automate database provisioning and management using Azure CLI, PowerShell, and AZ Copy.

Monitor and resolve database performance issues, ensuring optimized query performance and uptime.

Assist in database migrations to Azure SQL Database and ensure smooth transitions.

Design and implement data pipelines using Azure Databricks to enable scalable, efficient ETL processes.

Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations to provide actionable insights to business stakeholders.

Use R Studio to build, optimize, and maintain data models and perform statistical analysis on large datasets.

Support the administration of Apache Tomcat servers that host web applications and data services.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application performance, security, and integration with databases.

Document database configurations, troubleshooting steps, and standard operating procedures for internal reference.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field and 4+ years of related experience.

3-5 years of experience in database administration, data engineering, or a related field with hands-on experience in SQL Server, Azure, Power BI, Data Bricks, and Apache Tomcat.

Strong knowledge of SQL Server Database Administration, including backup, recovery, performance tuning, and security.

Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake.

Experience with Azure Databricks for data engineering, ETL processes, and big data analytics.

Proficiency in R Studio for data analysis, statistical modeling, and scripting.

Experience developing and managing Power BI dashboards and reports.

Familiarity with Apache Tomcat for web application and data service management.

Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills for database systems and data pipelines.

Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, collaborating with developers, analysts, and business users.

Clear and concise communication skills for documenting processes, troubleshooting, and working with non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills:

Experience with Azure DevOps for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).

Familiarity with Python or PowerShell for automation and scripting in cloud environments.

Knowledge of Data Governance and best practices for managing data securely.

Experience with data migration to cloud environments (especially from on-prem SQL Server to Azure SQL Database).

Microsoft Certifications in Azure, SQL Server, or Power BI are a plus.

Pay Range:Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
