Job Description

An experienced Senior Database Administrator with expertise in Microsoft SQL Server. Familiarity with Software AG Adabas could be advantageous.
The ideal candidate will manage, optimize, and maintain our database systems, ensuring high performance, security, and availability. 
A solid understanding of Windows applications and their interaction with databases is essential.

Responsibilities:

Project Rise as part of the CGIC systems modernisation is implementing new technology including relational databases, which are different to the current Adabas database technology.

The modernisation process will be a lengthy process during which CGIC will support Adabas and the new SQL database technology.

CGIC requires additional database skills to support the new technology and also to maintain operational requirements

Database Management

Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of SQL Server and Adabas databases.

Performance Optimization

Monitor and fine-tune database performance; implement backup and recovery solutions.

SQL Development

Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.

System Upgrades

Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime.

Application Support

Collaborate with teams to ensure seamless integration between databases and Windows applications.

Documentation

Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure clarity and facilitate maintenance.

Assist Project Rise with the establishment of new SQL database technologies

Design and establish new databases in support of the new systems development and implementation.

Support the new operation SQL database systems

Support and maintain the database solutions to ensure business continuity.

High availability configuration and data replication for mission critical MS SQLServer clusters, skills to make the production instance more resilient and fault tolerant.

Competency in cloud-based SQL servers, either AWS or Azure would be advantageous.

General Role

Design, implement and maintain databases required for new systems being developed, existing systems and MI requirements.Undertake impact analysis of changes to existing or introduction of new systems.Participate with cross functional teams following Agile principles in systems delivery.Support database operational requirements with appropriate housekeeping (backups, recovery and troubleshooting) Ensure data integrity across the systems.Manage and optimise performance for the databases to ensure best practice response and systems availability.Provide user support as according to CGIC procedures.Document the databases and maintain data dictionary for reference purposes.

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years in database administration with SQL Server.

Adabas / Natural programming skills could be advantageous
