Summary Statement
The City of Boise's Department of Planning and Development Services (PDS) is responsible for the physical growth and development of the city. From forward-looking plans to everyday, practical building and construction, PDS plays an instrumental role in the shape and direction of Boise. Specific responsibilities include long-range planning, urban design, mobility, housing, community development, zoning, historic preservation, building permitting, and inspections.
We are seeking data interns for the Spring and Summer semesters to support Planning and Development Services with projects focused on customer intake and code compliance divisions. Responsibilities will include data entry, analysis, and creating customized dashboards using Microsoft Power BI. Each intern will be assigned a specific deliverable to complete by the end of the semester. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to observe and contribute to other Planning and Development Services projects, aligned with their academic background and skill level.
Successful candidates for these positions will be self-motivated, inquisitive, and reliable. Additionally, experience with GIS and graphic design is desirable. Students in the Urban Studies program are encouraged to apply.
This position is designated as At-Will.
Requirements
Undergraduate or Graduate student (degree-seeking) enrolled in an Idaho college or university.
+ Proficiency in MS Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Ability to work independently with general guidelines under minimal supervision

19-Hour Temporary
All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.
4-Month Temporary
All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.
8-Month Seasonal
In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.
9-Month Temporary
In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
