Data Inventory and Classification ProjectThe Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) has started an intensive initiative to inventory, categorize and classify all electronic data that is processed or stored by state agencies that are subject to VITA’s IT security governance standard (about 76 agencies). All information that is collected will be analyzed so that gaps in any resources necessary to protect the data can be determined. A report will be compiled and submitted to the Governor’s office and the Secretary of Technology by October 15, 2015. Due to the short timeline and the large number of agencies that are involved, VITA is looking for short-term professional labor to assist in the project (8-10 contractors). This effort will require individuals to personally visit state agencies and complete a short but targeted assessment and validation form by interviewing key personnel and collecting and compiling documentation. The project is already underway and we will begin staffing for contingent labor as soon as we can identify and contract candidates. The project will be fast-paced and we expect all field work to be completed by September 30, 2015. Therefore, most contracted work will also end by September 30, 2015.
Job DescriptionCandidates for this position should have 4 or more years of IT and/or IT Auditing experience and be able to pass a background security check. The individual should be knowledgeable of general IT network infrastructure and security. The individual should be able to classify data as to its sensitivity to Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability. Candidates must have knowledge of the elements that constitute PII (personally identifiable information), personal health information, sensitive financial information and credit card information. The candidate should be familiar with risk management techniques and practices. The candidate should also be knowledgeable of the use and application of commonly used IT security controls, such as encryption, authentication techniques, logging, contingency planning, etc.The hours for these positions will be from 8 to 5, Monday through Friday, until September 30th. Candidates must have their own transportation as most work will be in the field, at agency locations. Most agencies are in the central Virginia area, but there are agency locations across the state that will require longer day trips and in some cases short overnight stays. The positions will be managed by VITA IT Security personnel, but the individual will need to be able to work independently and be able to follow the guidelines and instructions that are given.
