Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our Data Center Operations team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with HP, Dell, and IBM hardware, including clustered servers, blade systems, and storage solutions. This role focuses on the physical installation, cabling, and maintenance of hardware and includes responsibilities for firmware updates, networking, and storage connectivity, particularly in fiber channel SAN and high-speed interconnect environments.

Responsibilities

Rack and Stack Operations:

Install, secure, and align servers, storage systems, and network devices in data center racks.Perform structured cabling for power, networking, and storage, ensuring clean and efficient cable management.Label and document all connections, ports, and devices for accurate inventory and troubleshooting.

Converged Infrastructure:

Configure and connect blade center systems, ensuring proper integration with networking and storage infrastructures.Manage high-speed interconnects, including Ethernet, port channel, and fiber channel networks.Work with fiber channel SAN environments, provisioning storage and managing connectivity for optimal performance.Monitor and manage storage arrays to ensure availability of block and file storage and segregation of storage classes to meet business requirements.Troubleshoot networking and storage issues in blade systems, resolving latency, throughput, or connectivity problems.

Firmware Updates and Maintenance:

Regularly update firmware for servers, blade chassis, and storage systems to ensure security, reliability, and performance.Monitor firmware release schedules and implement updates in accordance with vendor recommendations and company policies.Verify successful firmware installations and address any post-update issues or incompatibilities.

Clustered Systems Support:

Assist with the setup, deployment, and maintenance of clustered server and storage solutions.Optimize cluster configurations to ensure high availability and performance.Monitor and manage cluster performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.

Troubleshooting and Repairs:

Diagnose and resolve hardware issues, including power, connectivity, and performance problems.Replace faulty hardware components and coordinate with vendors for support or warranty services as necessary.Perform regular preventive maintenance to ensure hardware reliability.

Data Center Operations Support:

Monitor and maintain optimal environmental conditions (power, cooling, and security) for data center equipment.Participate in capacity planning to support future growth and scalability.Adhere to best practices for safety and operational efficiency in a high-availability data center environment.

Documentation and Collaboration:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of installations, firmware updates, and configurations.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support infrastructure projects and operational objectives.Provide feedback and suggestions for improving operational processes and data center efficiency.

Technical Skills:

Strong expertise in racking, stacking, and cabling techniques.In-depth knowledge of blade center systems, including networking and storage integration.Proficiency with fiber channel SANs, high-speed interconnects, and storage provisioning.Experience with clustered server and storage environments, including troubleshooting and optimization.Familiarity with power distribution units (PDUs) and data center monitoring tools.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).Comfortable working in high-density rack environments and tight spaces.Ability to work with Data Center staff to ship and receive equipment and meet unboxing requirements.Flexibility to work on-call or off-hours for urgent tasks and scheduled updates.

Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.Ability to work with minimal direction and identify opportunities for improvements.Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

The expected salary/wage range for a U.S.-based hire filling this position is provided below. Actual offer may vary from this range based upon geographic location, work experience, education/training, and/or skill level. If this is a sales role, then the listed salary range reflects combined base salary and target-level sales compensation pay. If this is a non-sales role, then the listed salary range reflects base salary only. Variable incentives may also be offered. USD Annual Salary: $60,800.00 - $140,400.00
