Dashboard Developer - Indianapolis Health

Overview

Milliman’s Indianapolis Health Practice is looking for a Dashboard Developer to manage and enhance our expanding portfolio of data-driven reporting solutions focused on healthcare analytics, with a particular emphasis on Medicaid programs. The role includes building and optimizing scalable, cloud-based dashboards while ensuring data integrity, HIPAA compliance, and top performance with large data sets. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, apply industry best practices in software development, and take full ownership of critical reporting solutions that serve both internal and external stakeholders. This role also offers the chance to work on complex data challenges, driving performance improvements and ensuring the seamless integration of data across various platforms.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Design and implement interactive, user-friendly data presentation solutions to meet complex business needs in healthcare, particularly Medicaid programs Develop and maintain scalable, cloud-enabled, data-intensive dashboarding solutions Ensure data accuracy and integrity by implementing robust data validation, quality checks, and security protocols in compliance with HIPAA standards Participate in requirements gathering from diverse stakeholders and effectively translate business needs into technical solutions Implement complex, reactive calculations on healthcare claims data, with a focus on deep data filtering logic and value-based care models Optimize performance of existing dashboards and solutions, enhancing user experience and maintaining responsiveness under large datasets. Integrate data from multiple sources (e.g., SQL, NoSQL databases) and use cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) to ensure efficient data handling and processing Follow and enforce best practices in software development, including version control and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)

Qualifications

Ability to gather detailed requirements from a diverse set of stakeholders and effectively translate them into dashboarding and reporting solutions Experience integrating diverse data sources (e.g., SQL, NoSQL databases) into scalable and cloud-enabled dashboarding and reporting solutions Software development skills, including proficiency with Git for version control and knowledge of CI/CD practices (e.g. GitHub Actions) Understanding of data presentation best practices, including when to use specific visualization types (e.g. charts vs. tables) based on business needs Proficient in writing code in at least one programming language (e.g., R, Python, SQL) for building data solutions; We do not use drag-and-drop technologies like Looker or Qlik Experience working with multiple dashboarding platforms/technologies, with the ability to discuss their respective strengths, weaknesses, and best-use cases Experience implementing bug fixes and ensuring ongoing system performance and user satisfaction

Required:

2 or more years of experience in developing data-driven analytics and reporting solutions using tools like RShiny, Tableau, or other advanced coding-based dashboard platforms, alongside strong proficiency in SQL and Python Experience analyzing healthcare data, particularly administrative claims data, and familiarity with Medicaid and value-based care models

Preferred:

Proven experience developing dashboards using RShiny or other advanced visualization platforms Experience working in environments with strict data security standards and procedures, such as HIPAA and other healthcare regulations Expertise in software development tools and practices, including authoring CI/CD solutions using platforms like GitHub Actions or GitLab Demonstrated ability in optimizing performance of data-intensive processes and managing large datasets with cloud-based technologies like Azure Databricks or AWS

The Team

The Indianapolis Health practice has 200+ full-time employees from various academic and professional backgrounds. Our practice is strategically structured to serve state Medicaid and other health and human service agencies. We create dedicated core teams for each state Medicaid agency client that are customized to serve each of our clients’ unique needs. As a member of the IDEAS team, you will provide analytical support services to our key state clients and their dedicated core teams, under the mentorship of senior data consultants. Our data team works cross-functionally with professionals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds including actuarial, policy, finance, pharmacy, and data management - working together with the common goal of best serving our clients’ needs. Location

The person hired for this role will work in a dynamic, hybrid environment, with 2 to 3 days per week of on-site work required in our Indianapolis office on a weekly basis.
