We’re looking for Customs Specialist in Africa and the main job function is to ensure efficient, compliant and cost-effective import and export movement of equipment across international borders ensuring that the key disciplines of customs compliance, classification, valuation, country of origin (both preferential and non-preferential), special procedures (e.g. duty reliefs and facilitations), documentation and recordkeeping are adhered to in the African region. .

What you’ll do:
Monitor and ensure that all shipments comply with African customs regulations and international trade agreements
Advise the company on necessary licenses, permits, and certifications required for cross-border trade.
Keep up-to-date on changes in customs policies, tariffs, and regulations in African countries and communicate relevant updates to stakeholders
Prepare and review import/export documents, including invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin etc
Ensure all paperwork complies with country-specific customs procedures
Work with freight forwarders/customs brokers to submit accurate and timely customs declarations to African customs authorities to facilitate the smooth import and export of goods
Manage and track the status of shipments through customs to ensure timely delivery
Analyse customs tariffs, duties, and taxes applicable to goods being imported or exported across Africa
Ensure proper classification of goods in accordance with the Harmonized System
Identify potential customs compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them
Work with local customs authorities to resolve any issues or disputes regarding shipments
Advise on customs-related issues impacting supply chain efficiency
Serve as a liaison between Aggreko and customs authorities, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders
Provide expert advice to internal teams on customs matters and import/export best practices
Provide training to internal teams on customs compliance and procedures
Support and advise operational teams on handling customs-related issues in day-to-day logistics
You’ll have the following skills and experience:
Deep understanding of African customs regulations, in particular customs special regimes, classification/tariffs, valuation and origin
5 years of experience in customs, logistics, international trade, or a related field, with a focus on African markets
Effective interpersonal skills, including proven abilities to listen, comprehend, effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results
Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and in a team environment
Process focused with high attention to detail when handling documents and ensuring compliance with regulations
Ability to analyse complex customs data and provide actionable insights, audit and investigation skills
