Description
The Border Security Coordinator ensures that the company maintains the highest level of regulatory compliance in all Canadian, Mexican, U.S. border security programs such as C-TPAT, AEO and PIP.
The position serves as the customs & border security compliance representative for Magna Mirrors, Mechatronics, Lighting (MML), Seating, Magna Powertrain (MPT), and Magna Electronics. Primary responsibility of the position is to ensure the North American customs & border security compliance programs are maintained in accordance with Magna policy and government program requirements.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall project management and administration of the customs & border compliance security program to ensure its continual progress as directed by the Group Trade Compliance Manager.
Provide training as required for divisions.
Develops, documents, and disseminates policies and procedures in support of security interests for Magna as directed by the Group Trade Compliance Manager.
Work collaboratively with the Group Trade Compliance Manager for MML, MPT, Seating and Electronics.
Work collaboratively with divisions who apply to become part of a border security program.
Work collaboratively with the divisions to prepare and maintain readiness for scheduled border security validations by CBP.
Work collaboratively with customers and suppliers to prepare and maintain readiness for scheduled border security validations by CBP. Work with divisions to control border security requests including; timely, accurate and detailed work plans, resource schedules, project estimates and status reports.
Work collaboratively with the Magna Corporate border security Director as necessary.
Identify and communicate border security related issues to the Group Trade Leads and if applicable, to divisions and perform risk analysis where directed. Inform management of industry changes, developments and trends, or incidents that may impact the organizations’ ability to conform or comply with rules and regulations that may result in financial penalties or losses, including loss of border security designation.
Border Security Coordinator is to: i) attend the CBP Border Security annual conference, ii) participate in border security related working groups or sub-committees iii) attend AIAG Customs Town Hall and, iii) keep up with border security/trade related news, webinars and publications.
Work with Mexico Trade Compliance as required.
Manage the validation program of business partners and plant border security leads by ensuring:
- Continued evaluations of logistic partners.
- Continued evaluations of material suppliers.
- Ensure security process are compatible with US/CA/MX regulatory compliance.
- Support continued development in non- border security U.S. /CA/MX supply chain security programs.
- Work with divisions who are not on a formal border security program to ensure customer security requirements are maintained.
- Monitors division portals to ensure compliance with deadlines.
- Develop and facilitate internal border security training program for the divisions.
- Act as a resource to plant border security leads.
- Work with division and Group Trade Lead to ensure Magna customer requests responded to in a timely manner .
- Develop group metrics in line with Corporate Border Security and Corporate Trade Compliance metrics or otherwise as identified by the Group Trade Lead
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a customs & trade related field
The coordinator must have knowledge of the border security programs (AEO, C-TPAT and PIP and supply chain operations.
Familiar with CBP C-TPAT portal
Familiar with ERP systems (Baan, CMS, SAP)
Minimum Grade 12 Education
Customs Certified Specialist Designation preferred but not required
Excellent communication skills
Team Player
Customer oriented (internal and external)
Ability to know when an issue should be escalated to management
Good written skills
Ability to problem solve and find economic savings in current processes
Ability to identify, develop and facilitate awareness training to divisions
Excellent excel spreadsheet skills
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
Ability to walk through manufacturing facilities with safety gear
This position will require domestic and international travel within North America. (50%)
