We are seeking dedicated individuals to join us as full-time, on-site team members at our new, state-of-the-art factory located in the thriving city of DeSoto, Kansas. **Job Summary:** We are seeking a highly motivated engineer with a laboratory experience to join our team at Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America (PECNA). This Customer Quality Engineer will be primarily focused on implementing and completing routine battery tests. They will analyze test results, investigate root causes of failures, and recommend corrective actions while maintaining and developing SOPs for battery handling and testing. They will be evaluating and reporting results, managing test equipment, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders for the world's largest lithium-ion battery initiative. **Essential Duties:** + Conduct routine performance, safety, and on-going reliability testing on lithium-ion cells per specifications and procedures with high levels of safety and accuracy. + Maintain, evaluate, follow, and develop SOPs that detail safe handling, testing, storage, and disposal practices for lithium-ion batteries. + Operate, maintain, and trouble shoot multiple laboratory equipment types, i.e. cell charging/discharging/overcharging, impact and drop tests, vibration tests, data acquisition, and many others. + Analyze test results and use statistics to identify trends. + Record, communicate, and report results and concepts using technical and layman’s terminology. + Ensure laboratory cleanliness and 6S standards are met. + Anticipate and investigate failure modes and root causes, recommend, and implement mitigation and corrective actions. + Assist with hands-on training of quality laboratory technicians. + Troubleshoot routine issues and actively assists others in identifying problems and finding solutions to fix it. + Lead effective and timely containment actions and treatment of nonconforming product. + Communicate with different levels of the organization to resolve quality issues. + Engage in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing product quality, process improvements or reducing defects. + Collaborate with cross-functional internal and external stakeholders. + Ensure adherence to quality, general plant and PECNA policies and procedures. **Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:** + To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees’, wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. It is intended to be an accurate reflection of the general nature and level of the job._** **Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred** **Education** + Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field. + Preferred: N/A **Essential Qualifications** + 3 years of laboratory experience + Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles. + The ability to succeed with ambiguity and adapt quickly. + Strong verbal and written communication skills for clearly reporting issues and collaborating + Proficiency in documenting test results, inspection findings, and other relevant information accurately and comprehensively. + Ability to perform basic statistical processes to data. + Working knowledge of metrology, measuring techniques, and equipment. + Demonstrated proficiency in 100% of technical inspection processes and techniques. + Working knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and regulatory requirements (e.g., UL, CE, RoHS). + Ability to quickly learn the organization’s production processes. + Collaborative nature with willingness to learn from and accept guidance from others. + Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. **Preferred Qualifications:** + 5+ years of laboratory experience + Advanced technical or management degree. + Experience with lithium-ion Cell testing and or manufacturing. + Deep knowledge of product testing and evaluation, i.e. SPC, DOE, HALT, HASS, ORT, regulatory criteria, industrial standards, etc. + Six-sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement project experience. + Demonstrated understanding in PECNA HPC. + Experience working with and/or designing data processing softwares and dashboards such as Laboratory Information Management Systems, Power BI, Foundry, or similar. + Alignment to Panasonic’s seven (7) core principles (contribution to society, fairness and honesty, cooperation and team spirit, untiring effort for improvement, courtesy and humility, adaptability, gratitude) **Preferred License(s):** + None **Preferred Certification(s):** + None **Physical Demands** **Physical Activities:** Percentage of time (equaling 100%) during the normal workday the employee is required to: + Sit: 10% + Walk: 40% + Stand: 40% + Lift: 10% **Required Lifting and Carrying:** _Not required (0%), Occasional (1-33%), Frequent (34-66%, Continuous (67-100%)_ For this position the required frequency is: + Up to 10 lbs.: Frequent + Up to 20 lbs.: Frequent + Up to 35 lbs.: Occasional + Team-lift only (over 35 lbs.): Occasional **About Us:** At the heart of this visionary project, Panasonic is committed to manufacturing cutting-edge cylindrical lithium-ion cells that will power the future of electric mobility.
