The Salvation Army’s Boston Central Corp. is hiring a Custodian and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location: 23 Vernon Street, Boston

Pay Range: $16.00 per hour

                     25 hours per week

 

The Custodian Worker is responsible for cleaning, sanitation and general upkeep of the building, grounds, and set-ups and take-downs of rooms to support various programs and building uses. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Requires at least 1 year of experience in current janitorial methods and procedures used to maintain a multi-use facility. 

 

Must have knowledge of health and sanitation requirements of a public facility

 

Provide routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and dusting of all interior and exterior building surfaces and furnishings.Regular cleaning and sanitation of areas including restrooms and kitchen.Provide furniture and equipment set-ups and take-downs in support of various programs and building uses.Regular removal of trash, litter and recyclables.Provide hi-level cleaning of public areas such as lobbies and entry areas.Regular cleaning and sweeping of exterior areas including sidewalks, paved areas, and landscaping.Remove snow from designated areas at Corps, even when building is closed during snow emergencyProvide minor and routine maintenance and repairs to building systems and grounds.Maintain appropriate inventories of cleaning products, supplies and products such as paper towels, toilet tissue, and soaps throughout the facility.Maintain the appearance and functionality of the facilities and grounds components including doors, windows, flooring, roofing, walls, ceilings and furnishings.Maintain records of cleaning, service and repair of building systems.Pick-up and delivery of items when requested within Greater Boston area.Must possess integrity and trustworthiness essential for work with an organization in which a great deal of public trust is placed.As with any position with The Salvation Army, it is impossible to predict the many requests and assignments that may be made on the Building Attendant Supervisor. Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial characteristics of the individual who holds this important position.Immediately rectify and/or report any potentially unsafe conditionsEnsure appropriate preventative and routine maintenance is performed; conduct regular inventory of all equipment and supplies.

 

Report all injuries in a timely manner and according to procedure.Perform other duties as assigned. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi taskDetail orientedAbility to maintain a self-motivated and self- directed scheduleAbility to take projects from beginning through completionExperience in using multiple cleaning machines and specialized cleaning equipment.Must be physically fit to do extensive walking, stair climbing, lifting (maximum 50 lbs), Using equipment to move heavier objects.Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions/procedure manuals.Must have a valid license for driving.At least 21 years of age.Speaks English
