Culinary Supervisor – Intrepid Museum – Part Time

THE VENUE

Legends is the official hospitality partner for the food service areas at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, a premier tourism destination in the heart of New York City. The partnership includes full quick service restaurant, an outdoor seasonal kiosk serving beverage and snacks, a lighter fare concept aboard the ship serving sandwiches and flat breads along with grab and go items and weekend catering events for groups up to 300.  With the opportunity of serving up to 10,000 guests 363 days a year, Legends has created a culture of fast and friendly service at the Intrepid

 

THE ROLE   

The Culinary Supervisor position is responsible for supporting all Food and Beverage Operations as directed by the General Manager. This is a great opportunity for a self-starting individual who can work independently, who is looking to challenge their culinary skills and to showcase their creativity.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for overseeing and executing the daily culinary operations in the Food and Beverage outlets Set up and preparation of all assigned locations Check in food deliveries and verify with warehouse team Oversee and check opening and closing duties of the kitchen staff in their assigned locations Replenish and restock all food items and food related items as needed and directed by management Maintain a high level of sanitation awareness and conscientiousness Conduct monthly inventories with kitchen staff Maintain par levels of menu items and prepare orders for management Prepare prep lists for team to execute for catering orders Ensure catering orders are prepared and delivered on time to assigned locations Identify needs for upcoming business levels and catering orders based on business levels Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all kitchen equipment and reporting any operating issues Update and record temperature logs daily Maintain cleanliness and organization of all walk in and reach in refrigerator and freezers in compliance with local health code Always conduct self in a professional, safe, and efficient manner. Production of menu items in a timely manner and in accordance with the venue’s standards Ability to follow directions precisely and consistently; maintenance of work area and proper food storage; opening and closing duties Track and maintain par levels in assigned locations Adheres to company guidelines and house rules, always exceeds guest expectations. Ability to expedite food in a fast paced environment Lead and work to maintain the facility and all equipment to the highest standards ensuring Safety and Cleanliness Work as a team with fellow associates in the both the FOH and the BOH Ensure daily checklists are followed and completed by warehouse and kitchen associates Assist other supervisors in other related tasks and responsibilities as necessary

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have Food NYC DOH & Mental Hygiene Food Certificate in Food Protection Must be at least 18 years old The ideal candidate will have a culinary degree or have graduated from a certified apprenticeship program with a minimum of 2-3 years of cooking experience in a ala carte restaurant, fast paced concessions environment, a contract foodservice industry, preferably in premium services or catering Two year kitchen experience in a lead or supervisory role Able to delegate and prioritize duties to the culinary team Work with a sense of urgency, manage and execute multiple orders from a KDS Pizza preparation experience a plus and willing to learn new skills Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment Strong commitment to delivering a high level of customer and client service with demonstrated initiative and leadership Customer service oriented with the ability to interact with all levels of management Must be flexible to work weekends, nights and holidays Must be able to work in a team environment High level of organization and attention to detail Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to make evaluations and decisions without immediate supervision Must be able to accept and carry out responsibility for directions Practice safe work habits, follow all safety policies and procedures and regulations, complete company-wide safety training and additional job specific safety training

 

Compensation:

$22.66/Hourly

 

Location: On Site. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, which may include being on a moving vessel. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands to finger, and handle controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, and stoop. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
