For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ *Primary Role*_ The Cross Connection Specialist is responsible for the administration of the local cross connection control program to ensure compliance with State regulations relating to cross connections and backflow prevention. _ *Key Accountabilities*_ Responsible for the development and maintenance of water system backflow prevention plans in accordance with federal, state and county requirements; a review proposed federal, state and local regulations/policies and provides feedback/comments that support the company's interests. Perform technical inspections and field surveys, testing and maintenance of cross connection controls and backflow assemblies to ensure protection of water supply systems; maintains and distributes listing of all certified backflow device inspectors. Maintain database of backflow prevention assemblies used in AW water systems as well as in applicable industrial and commercial water systems. Responds to and tracks customer requests and complaints regarding cross-connection and testing issues and related work as required, prepares and files reports. Does other similar work as called upon to perform, and any other work as necessary. _ *Knowledge/Skills*_ * Demonstrated organizational ability and administrative skills. * Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. * Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize tasks. * Effective problem solving and analytical ability. * Good to excellent working knowledge of all Federal, State, and local requirements for Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention regulations, guidance, or statutes. _ *Experience/Education*_ * High school diploma required; associates degree preferred. * One (1) to two (2) years education or working knowledge of regulations and program essentials. * Experience in water production, distribution, or treatment system operations preferred. _ *Travel Requirements*_ * Local and occasional overnight travel to districts may be required. _ *Certifications & Licenses*_ * The successful candidate is required to obtain a Cross Connection Control Specialist and Backflow Tester Certifications issued by the CA-NV Section AWWA within no less than 18/24 months of hire. * Requires a valid CA Class C Driver’s license with minimal moving violations. _ *Work Environment*_ * Operations Role – required 5-days in the office * Work schedule Flexible 7:00am or 7:30am to 3:00pm or 3:30pm. * Occasional time may be spent in the field visiting customers, answering questions on backflow device installation, and performing site inspections _ *Competencies*_ Champions safety Collaborates Cultivates innovation Customer obsessed Drives Results Nimble learning * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing*™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants* *based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.*
